Default Removable Tops?

My new 09 Cpe came with Dual tops so today I decide to pack the painted one away in storage.

The painted unit seemed to come off fine, I unlatched the rear and then the two front latches.

Short of giving it a tap up along the front she came of clean.

Putting the glass one on, I slid the back flush and lined it up.

The front did not line up correctly and would not drop down.

Bouncing around the car from drivers side to passenger sid she would not go home?

Finally, I had to give each side a slap with my palms.

It seems stressed.

Is this normal?

I think the directions say to put the front in first. It should go in easier this way.

Thanks,
I recall reading top removal from the manual, and I believe it stated when removing lift up on the font first than pull towads the front while lifting off.
I was thinking the oposite to install, though what you are saying does make sense.
The latch in the back pulls tight to the rear when you lock it.
I'm feeling
Thanks again,

Sounds normal to me. To remove the front always comes up first. To install, I push the round guide pins on the back and firmly push the front of the top. The better you get lining up the guide pins to the holes, the less pressure you'll have to apply at the front of the top to get it to seat correctly.

The front can't go in first, the rear pins have to be inserted before the front can be dropped into place.

Okay,
I need to give this a try again.
Sorry,
It is not possible for me to try it right away, this is why I posted the question today.

( Car is back in storage )

Aligned the rear pins perfect then pushed all the way back from my left hand holding the front middle of the top.
The back went completely flush right up against the weather strip.
When I lowered the front down it was hung up on both front pins
\holes.
Its been seven years since my 02, but from what I can remember the top basically dropped right into place and then you just lock her down.

I am going to try both tops, I took delivery with the painted one so maybe the transparent one is out of spec.

Are you sure you had the latches completely open, if not it won't drop into place.

Mine takes some pressure in the front to seat properly and it's worked great for three years. It certainly doesn't just "drop in". I put the back in first, let the front down to contact, then push until it seats. It takes a little more pressure than my C5 but both need pressure to seat and latch properly. I don't see where you could be causing any problems...it will either seat with pressure or it won't.

When we say drop into place, of course we all know it "drops" into place with "moderate" pressure.

If you pack that painted top away you'll never see it again. The transparent top is the only way to go.
