I upgraded from the 3.0 to the 4.0 European version NAV DVD, and the NAV now gives me a warning that I have never heard before.
Last weekend I got this vocal message twice:
"Security alert ahead 800 meters"
I thought it would be:
a: Accident ahead in 800 meters
b: Traffic jam or similar in 800 meters
c: Speed trap or law enforcement person in 800 meters
d: Emergency vehicle ahead in 800 meters
In both occasions I couldn't see any of the above, there was nothing to see at the spot the NAV was talking about.
Is this vocal message a European NAV unit feature, or is it something you guys and girls also get, and what does it mean ?
The 2007 NAV manual does not mention about a security alert message. I would have to guess this is a function available only to the European version of the NAV disk, or a funcition of the (RDS) radio data system.
From: Currently somewhere in IL,IN,KY,TN,MO,AR,MS,AL, or FL
I would assume the message was part of the ability of the NAV to "receive broadcast announcements on traffic and emergency alert communications." It is part of the RDS system. It is discussed on pages 89-92 in my nav manual. It would have nothing to do with the map disc and the wording of the message is coming from the radio station and not the car. The warning is also only as good as the information the radio station has at the time.
