Bose AudioPilot Functional Test
I understand your question regarding the Bose AudioPilot Technology and I will try to provide you with some quick tests you can perform to make sure the Bose System is functioning properly. I would also recommend that you visit our website www.bose.com and select Automotive/Technologies and walk through the interactive demonstration of how AudioPilot works it is not the same as speed compenstated volume in your previously owned vehicles, ie 2000 Chevrolet Camaro or the 2001 Chevrolet Corvette.
On Bose equipped vehicles, you should have am auto volume ON and OFF switch (some vehicles may not have the ON off OFF feature available) AudioPilot works when the volume is low and the noise levels are high, unlike speed only, it will react to rough roads. AudioPilot will not boost in all cases such as 65 mph and a truck driving along side the vehicle, this feature is not supposed to make it sound like the volume is going up and down it is supposed to be subtle just like loudness compensation.
With the vehicle stationary, put on a talk radio station. Place the volume at a back ground level so that you can hear the talk but it is easy to carry on a conversation over the radio. Now, drive up to 55 mph and turn the feature on and off, the talk radio should become inaudible when the feature is off.
Please let me know if you are able to perform the suggested test to confirm if the AudioPilot feature is functioning. Thank you for contacting Bose Corporation.

I understand that this is a high tech and subtle system, and should be transparent to the occupants. I believe the main function of AudioPilot is to avoid requiring manual adjustments to the volume control due to various levels of ambient noise.
Unfortunately, on almost every outing, I need to manually turn up or down the volume depending on speed, road conditions or ambient noise levels. This is not necessary in my other cars; just set it and forget it.
There was a thread about moving the location of the microphone to provide greater sensitivity. Other than that, it appears everyone is just living with a very high-tech but low-functioning automatic volume control.
This shortcoming has been known for many years and to my knowledge has not been addressed. Perhaps Patty can let us know why there has been no solution or improvement.

However it is much better than my Jeep (which has no self adjusting) which whenever I get on the freeway I have to notch up the volume two ticks to hear at the same level.
