I had an '01 Zo6 stolen at a Colts game back in Oct '03. ( WORST DAY EVER!!) Insurance company couldn't figure out how they did it (once they realized I didn't commit insurance fraud) Had to have been a flatbed.
yeah i dont see the point of targeting your vette in a parking lot of hundreds of cars
Modern cars use a key with a chip that the car's CPU needs to recognize to get the motor started. I seldom see a Corvette stolen in my profession and when I do it generally appears to be an owner give up. Generally the car turns up burned to get the insurance money. Thieves want the higher production cars for the parts value.
It's funny you mentioned the uber sophisticated, I got an email from a friend who says that thieves are using these "scanners" to pick up & clone your key fob when you lock your car using the fob. The second you walk away, they hit a button, unlocking your doors, and have free reign to your belongings while you are in the store, etc.
Bastards....
That's why you want to use passive locking. Never use your fob to lock your car again.
Adding a "tilt sensor" to the alarm system can increase the security should one decide to flatbed your Vette away. Shock sensors do not always trigger, and if one make it sensitive then there comes lots of false alarms.

what do you mean by passive locking? to set it to automatically lock itself without pressing the fob or manually lock it by using the door lock switches?

Passive locking allows the car to lock and unlock itself when your fob is in range. My fob never enters or leaves my pocket except when I leave the house and return. I don't understand why anyone would want to steel a vett when GM is giving them away!

thanks for the reply...does it still honk automatically or lights blinks when it locks/ unlocks...how could you check if you have the fob w/ you?
I suspect that the Vettes you have seen have "salvage" titles due to being underwater. They clean them up, claim the cars were stolen thus no body damage and try and sell them as theft recovered cars. Of course, later, all kinds of problems arise with the car being a flood damaged car.
What are you guy's input on LO-JACK? I know they have they regular system, that only works when you see the car missing. By the time you realize the car is missing, the car is long gone and on a container overseas.
They also have an upgraded system call " Early warning". They will call, text,or whatever method to contact you when your car has move without you driving it.
Does LO-JACK work as a way to help minimize the theft of your vette?
What do you guys think of LO-JACK? Is it a waste of money?
