Default '07 Key Question

I find the key quite bulky and was wondering what is underneath the black plastic if you grind it away? Can you still put it on a key ring?

I'm not sure what an '07 key looks like but I'm guessing it is similar to this:

My key had NO HOLE after you grind off the plastic. I carry the key in my wallet.

You can buy an 08 Fob with the hide a key.

Talk to Gene Cully.

It will work in your 07 as long as the first cut is not a zero or whatever that means.

He can order you the FOB/Hide a key and tell you if you key can be cut to match.

The B106 key blank is too large to suite me so I trimmed one down a bit.

it's a 1 in the code and all you have to do if you have one is buy the fob and the blank key from Gene (or your parts depot) and get an 07 key cut than cut off the head and drill a whole and it will fit in the new fobs

The question was, "What is under the black plastic?" No hole is under the black plastic of the 07 key.

No hole is under the black plastic on the original GM key. Aftermarket keys from companies like ILCO are made in two types. B-106 and BP-106. The B-106 is like the Saturn key pictured above...it has a hole. BP-106 has a plastic head and no hole if you grind off the plastic. I took a BP-106, which is easier to find, and cut off the plastic head, ground it down, and then drilled my own hole so I could put it on my keyring. It now basically has no head on it. It is the same width all the way from one end to the other. Takes up very little space on my ring. The ring itself acts as the handle to give leverage when turning it in the lock.
