Default Opions needed please.

with a budget of say 55k which would you do.
07 Z06 knowing that your mod budget will be very limited so lets say boltons and push 500 rwhp.
06 z51 coupe, knowing you can get one for 30k, and have plently left over for rear wide body, build motor/blower and easily push 700 rwhp and have a removable roof, z06 brakes and suspension?

I know the coupe will never be a z0, but it seems with the budget i have the z0 will not be as fast at the coupe. keep in mind neither car will ever see a road coarse. They will stricktly be a weekend fun highway cruiser and the occasional trip to the drag strip.

Opinions please...

I would say go with the coupe. Because we both know you will not be happy with just bolt ons. Get the LS2 yank it sell it to someone and order a LSX block, Callies Crank, Compstar Rods, Diamond dished Pistons, Get a set of All-Pro LS7 6 bolt heads, a mild bump stick with a WIDE LSA, Ported LS7 intake, 1 7/8 headers full 3in exhaust, B&B fusions, Procharger F1C. And go have some fun with almost 1000rwhp without meth just on straight 93.

Because that 100,000 mile warranty will probably go out the window on the way home from the dealership.

my main point pulling me to the coupe is that (1) neither would be new... (2) 505 doesnt feel fast enough more for me. i would not be happy with 505 hp.

I'd say your mind is made up. Since you are a diy'er and love the horse power. You're only real choice is the coupe. Go get it and get started and post some pics when you're done>>>>>>

When you have driven much more powerful and faster vehicles then stock just will not do no matter how much power it comes with from the factory.

Go with the 06 z51 coupe and mod the hell out of it.

Superchargers are so much fun.

My budget was around 60-65k. I wanted a warranty, I wanted an automatic. I also wanted the ls7 engine.

I needed an automatic because I drive this car 7 months a year,so I bought a loaded 09 C6 ls3 with 10 grand in options. I got the extended GMPP for around $1800, and I have spent about $1600 in mods. My average speed displayed on the dash is 16.6 MPH, I would never buy a 6 speed for where I live.

If I were you, I would save up and get a 2008 z06. The 2010 Z06's come out in about 4 months, so the prices of the 08's will drop a little bit more.

If you want a 6 speed without having to worry about the stability of putting together a Frankenstein engine bay, ,then go for an 08 z06.
If you want a modded car that is almost completely custom, then go for an 08 ls3 6 speed and mod it all the way. Just be careful because if something breaks, you might have to spend a lot to fix it. The ls7 is fast enough for most people, you are better off with the Z06 if you want to race on a track. The car is also about 100 pounds lighter than the Coupe so that will give you a better 1/4 time.

The 2010 coupes come out in a few months, and the 08's will be around 36 grand with the z51 that you want. If I were you I would wait for the older Vettes to depreciate a bit more. 08 z51's right now on eBay go for about 37-38k, and the 2008 Z06's are at $54,000 right now. Good luck on your search for a Vette.
Just my 2¢, I am sorry if at all during this post one finds something I have said to be a flame. I love all the Corvette models.

Seems like overkill for occasional trips to the drag strip. Just my opinion.

it depends what you are looking for.. when i put my foot down i want it to suck me into the back of the seat.. and 500 rwhp just doesnt do it for me. my last car made almost that much and just felt slow. the 500ish rwhp c6's i have been in feel the same way.. 500 rwhp just doesnt do it for me..

I would also check the CF for sale section.... every once in a while you will find a nicely modded C6 or Z.
