Default Body Colored Splash Guards

Hello all,

Just last week we purchased an '06 vert, looks just like the one in the Corvette Forum logo.

I really like it a lot so far, but as I always do with all my cars -- I want to put splash guards on her -- especially since the yellow color wraps around the inside of the tire area. I know there will be lots of stuff getting spew'd all around the rear area of each wheel well.

I was wondering which splash guards you all used on your cars. I've observed from searching this forum that the GM parts do a good job of keeping the body clean, but I would rather have a body-colored unit instead of black if I could -- unless there is a specific reason why this is a bad idea.

Does anyone have any recommendations -- and please if you remember -- how hard were they to install? I guess I should assume the rears will have to come off for hole drilling.

Has anyone tried these? http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...3&dept_id=1351

I've seen a number of different splash guards, but I'd love to hear what you all recommend and why.

Thanks in advance,
Thomas Zarbo

www.rpidesigns.com has the GM Splash guards and will paint them for 179.00. I think forum members get 10% off that price. Call Josh, he is a great vendor 888-257-8515.

I developed these for my yellow car 4 yrs ago and they have been a big seller, they are only 1/2 price - $27 for a set of 4, no holes to drill and not tape needed. IMO satin black is the best choice as it blends into the tire from the back LINK FOR MORE

Congratulations on getting your Corvette.

I personally like the GCA splash guards the best out of the current batch of offerings and I have them on my Vette. They are subtle and follow the fender contours very nicely and they protect the painted area of the wheel well from road rash.

Installation was not difficult, but you will have to remove the rear wheels. You will also need a 21/64" drill bit - try Sears first.

I also thought about the body colored ones from RPI, but decided on the unpainted version as they blend in better with the tires and wheel wells and match the rear valence. Just keep in mind that the body colored ones will basically create additional body lines.

There are some painted splash guard pictures on the forum from members with JSB and Victory red cars. There are also many pictures of the unpainted version on black, blue, red, yellow, white and gray cars.

First, the Altec splash guards provide a lot of protection but they have to be the ugliest option out there.

The new GM (GCA) guards look like they came with the car. They are just the right size to protect the painted body panels. The car should come from the factory with them.

Personally, I hate body colored guards. In black, guards almost disappear with the wheel well and tire. Painted body color they become part of the body line and stand out. Splash guards are best unseen.

Here's a pic after 5000 miles installed for the GM guards.

You will not go wrong with any of the choices above. As stated, the black ones really do disappear with the tires. You have to be within a few feet to see either Son of Dreams' guards (I had them on), or the GM black ones (I have them on).

As to the painted ones, instead of blending with the tires and black wheel wells, it will blend with the bodywork. The only downside I see to that is that it may (MAY) require more cleaning if dirt, spots, etc. kick up onto it. Your prior experience with them on other cars may tell you if this is accurate or just plain wrong on my part.

One stop shop. If you have any color except black I would use the body color GCA guards.

Josh uses Genuine GM splash guards and I haven't heard any complaints about the paint jobs or the paint coming off after being used. Check them out at www.rpidesigns.com.
