what casting number are on yalls heads? My dad just purchased a used 05 C6 and the heads doesn't have a casting number on them so I'm trying to figure out if they are 243 or 799 castings.
Which ones would they be. I've owned 2 LS2 vehicles and have only seen the 243 head on each, along with every 05 & 06 GTO. I was under the impression it was built with the 243 head. Did GM opt to put a different head on these engines at some point? Not being sarcastic, just questioning so I can learn something here.

Yea thats right its 07 (My model year)
I have the 243...
But somehow during that year they must have needed to use up some 799's and for a few months they got them.
Some on here claim the 799's breathe better (old c5Z) and gave those owners some HP!! Good trivia.
This was beat to death, and then burned, and beat to death again about two years ago. If I remember right, all 05s and 06s have the 243. Some 07's got the 799. After the horse got beat up, no one could prove that one was better than the other. The original thread was long and involved some supporting vendors and others. It had everyone running out to the garage to check their casting numbers and the color of their valve springs.
Here the original thread I mentioned above. It took a bit but the search function does work. It was funny reading it all again. Some even had a combination of 243 and 799 heads.
