I just installed the Peripheral PXAMG iPod adapter in my '07 Vert last night. This unit requires removal of the front center console and Nav/audio head unit. Thanks to Ray Kawal and his detailed step by step instructions on how to remove and install the console, it took only 1.5 hrs start to finish, no problems or breaking of plastic! The iPod adapter works great, just as advertised.
so u plug the ipod in the center console? not trying to sound like an idiot but i feel like one now
I ran the iPod connection cable into the center console. It was easy to do with the front console off; just ran the cable down by the shifter and into the center console then put everything back together.
Here's a link to Ray Kawal's review of the different units available. Great information here. If you're going to do it, I suggest reading the entire write up from Ray. Excellent. http://www.kawal.net/ipod.htm
Does the nav unit control the iPod? Or is it one of those that you have to memorize which buttons on the nav system handle forward, next, etc?
You do have to remember a few buttons on the NAV screen i.e.: preset 3 on XM will give you the option to search all playlists, artist, genre, album etc. The steering wheel controls function accordingly too. You also have the option of controlling your iPod direct or through the NAV.
so its not like the old school cigarette plug in and then choose a radio station and get half static is it? it says digital quality so i assume its gonna be a clear signal like cd quality?

Yes..Sounds just like a CD is playing. It hooks into the back of the factory stereo unit. It's not an FM transmitter. Intergrates with the HUD too. The Link I posted above will bring you right there and it tells you which iPods are compatible. I just got a new Classic120GB and the system is compatible with most other Apple units.
Correction: Does not display the song info through the HUD, but it does on the NAV screen.
i have two 30g ipods so im good. i will be ordering this asap. the 6 disc gets old after a while. ?, how do you switch it to say ipod mode on the stock deck?
Installed the ipod adaptor on my 2009 convertible. Connected to the XM transmitter behind the waterfall. Works great, and all controls on the steering wheel work, etc. Took 30 min to install.
Be careful putting any iPod (especially any with a disk drive) in the center console of a Vette. It will get HOT and kill your iPod. Z06 Vettes are even worse. With summer coming it doesn't take very long to overheat an iPod. I keep my iPod or iPhone on top of the closed drink holder - much less heat.

The last I had heard, the peripheral's are not compatible yet with the '09 Vettes. You were successful with the Peripheral PXAMG iPod adapter on your '09? If so, this is good news for me. I had contacted them a couple months back and they made no guarantee for the compatibility of the '09s and they said they had not tested it, so I wasn't buying yet.
As an alternative, I installed a LockPick. No console removal necessary - you plug it in serial into the plug for the XM receiver (even if you don't have XM you have the plug) located behind the waterfall in a convertible or over the left rear fender behind the interior panel in a coupe/Z06. Super easy install.
The Lockpick allows control of the iPod/iPhone from the Nav screen and it charges the device. It also has a Aux input, cord available separately, that allows you to use the 3.5mm jack on top - which allows you to listen to internet radio while you drive for those talk radio fans of Wunderradio.
The company has EXCELLENT personal customer service. Be sure and tell them if you have XM installed or not as it affects which unit they ship you.
They also have a very cool product that allows you to watch videos from your iPhone on your NAV screen, install a backup camera, etc.

They've updated the software to accomodate the '09s. Also, I mentioned in an earlier post that it integrates with the HUD. Not the case. I meant that is displays the song, album, playlist, etc. on the NAV screen only.
