Hello to all--I am at the point in my life (age 58) where I am considering buying my first corvette. I currently own a 2008 Infiniti G37 coupe that I enjoy driving on weekends for fun which I am considering trading in on a 2009 C6. Any thoughts or advice that you can give me will be appreciated. I am also ready for those "geezer-in-a-vette" jokes! Thanks.
Well a start list is:
-Vert or Coupe
-color preference
-6 sp manual or 6 sp paddle shift auto
-standard suspension or Z51 performance suspension or the F55 select ride (has three settings from norm to comp)...oh you will here ad nauseum about the Z51 vs F55 set ups..very popular debate taking up way too much band width IMHO
-interior options/color
-NPP exhaust or not
Lots of options to consider so answering the first 4 is a start
The most important thing is deciding exactly what you want. Don't get in a hurry, there are allot of very nice cars out there right now. Just ask yourself two questions:
1. Coupe or convertible?
2. Manual or automatic transmission?
The rest is all the fun stuff. My advise is to take your time and decide exactly what you want. Don't buy based strictly on price. Always remember every time you look a the car you have to love it. Do not put yourself in a buyers remorse situation. Good Luck in your quest.
OMG, that is a great car, you have good taste. Others have said it already but, just do it. If you want an '09 you need to move soon to get your combination out of inventory. The '10's don't have Victory Red any more, going to Torch Red which isn't the same.
Do you know about the Jeff Hardy Corvette locator site, jeffhardy.com. You can go there and plug in your equipment requirements and find all Vettes in the country with that combo.
If you haven't already driven a C6 please try to do it. Best of luck and remember we need pictures when you get it.
My husband was 58 and I was 53 when we bought our 1st vette last April. It has been one of the most fun years we can remember. Get the car, and get involved in a club. Spent this weekend out at Texas Motor Speedway and the 20th Lone Star Classic. Vettes from all of the country spent all day Sunday running the road course and the big oval for $50. I spent my day buckling kids from Make-a-Wish into the passenger seats of volunteer's vettes so they could take triple-digit laps around the oval. The looks on their faces when they'd get back were priceless. We've met some of the nicest people, all because we bought this car. GO FOR IT!!!
Hi, and welcome to the club of Corvette lovers. I hope you make the transition to Corvette owner! Now down to business. I thought I had to have a manual transmission until I drove an automatic, I love this auto!
You have to drive as many configurations as you can before you decide. I found the interior color one of the hardest decisions to make. The overwhelming choice is black (ebony). I find it too dark and dreary so I was going to get gray (titanium) interior until I saw a picture of a cashmere interior. I think this is the best color because it is bright and cheerful and very rich and classy. It is also the least popular choice so it may not be right for you, but I get nothing but compliments about my color combo. I, like you, love Corvettes in red and always thought mine would be too. But every time I went to a dealer to look at Corvettes the yellow ones made me weak in the knees. After a while I realized it had to be yellow. I could go on all night about how I built my car but the point is there are many choices, don't rush yourself (I am so **** I took ten months to decide exactly how to order my car). And last but not least, If at all possible I recommend Museum delivery, it is an experience you will remeber forever and on the way home you can bond with your new baby! (don't say you live too far away, I live in the San Francisco area). Do lots of online research and enjoy!
Summer is a terrific time to have a Vette. If you go forward with this in the near future you will find more shows and activities in the summer than the rest of the year. IMO the coupe offers a number of advantages:
1) The removable targa top for some open air,
2) A more affordable price,
3) More luggage space for some road trips,
4) A more open cabin, particularly with the translucent roof option.
Convertibles are nice also, but I put more miles on my coupe.
You should know yourself whether your a manual or an auto guy, both are good.
Coming from an Infiniti, you would probably be happier with a 3LT, maybe a 4LT.
Nav or no-nav is pretty much a personal choice.
Color and color combo again are personal choice.
For me shopping is part of the fun.
The G37 your in is a nice car. I've spent some time with the sedan version.
That said, I would get a Vette and never look back.
