I guess cutbacks are happening everywhere at GM, except the grass.

Maybe the new Corvette color for 2010 should be John Deere green!

If I worked there, plant shutdown or not, I'd organize a couple of folks with riders and cut the grass as a team building project. Embarrassing for the UAW to let that happen.

UAW: "It's an management issue..."

I suppose something like that could have been said...

Doesn't surprise me in the least - but shouldn't the federal government be out there mowing the lawn? With all the stimulus money sloshing around, you'd think some enterprising BG lawn care company would ask for a bailout to mow the plant's grass.

Maybe they are going to let it grow so they can cut hay off of it and sell the hay to make a profit.

Anyone else going to the CI this weekend? Maybe we could arrange to rent a couple mowers, weedeaters etc. and everyone pitch in and take care of this for them. Id be willing to donate a few bucks and some time.

Mowing the lawn is done by outside contractors. The UAW has nothing to do with it. GM err Government Motors is just trying to save a little cash.

As one of Delphi's senior executives once said as Delphi went into bankruptsy. "We just can't affort to pay someone $68/hr wages and benefits to mow the lawn in front of our assembly plants anymore".
