Default Grinding in 1st same as the diff TSB?

My Dad recently bought an '05, I had a chance to drive it a few weeks ago. It's an M6 with 26k miles and it appears to suffer from the rear diff TSB symptoms I was reading about on here. I noticed it mostly when I was backing it up a steep driveway, Dad only notices it when taking off in first gear, not turning as the TSB suggests. Does this seem like the same problem? If not, does anyone have an idea what it could be? Thanks for your help.

I searched a lot on here but it seems like most of the people say it's from turning, so could low RPM 1st and reverse produce the same symptoms?

No, this is not the same problem. The TSB is a sound produced from the rear of the car that will be a low frequency grinding noise that shows up mostly when turning slowly as to enter a parking spot.

The sound when pulling away is a more normal sound associated with the front engine, rear transmission configuration of the Corvette. The long torque tube and throw out bearing make a sound at low rpm, slow speed starts that sounds like marbles rolling around in a can. This would be considered normal.

No, I don't think so...because if you are going straight, then the diff clutch packs are not being used and so would not make any noise. The only way to get them to make noise is to turn...

But if it would make you feel better, you can take it into your dealer and have them look at it.

2005 cars and the T56 manual transmission have a design issue where there is a flat land area between the gear teeth. It is possible for the teeth to not mesh initially when trying to in to or back in to first gear. It is called first gear block out and it was a redesign feature for T6060.

That's what I was wondering. When I was pulling it out of the garage slowly, and backing it up, I noticed it more than anything. To me it sounded like grinding/scraping as I was letting the clutch out backing it up the driveway. Almost like the sound a bare brake pad makes on a rotor, metal to metal. I was wondering what the differences would be with a tranny in the back. The sound is definitely coming from behind the seats.

He says he notices it in first gear pulling away, I'll try to get more info from him. I don't get anything like this in my 06 M6 GTO, but I would think we have different trannys, definitely different setups. Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it.
