It is my understanding that the 3M film you describe is not the same material as Ventureshield, although Ventureshield is owned by 3M. Someone may wish to validate this understanding.
I have the 3M clearbra. I had it installed by a certified installer last August after I purchased my 08. It has been great. Someone opened a door against my passenger-side mirror and gouged the material. the paint was not damaged.
Tomorrow my installer is going to replace it free. He will trim the edges free also where there has been some wear.
This is not cheap. Mine was $900. I covered the entire nose, 1/3 hood (they now can cover the entire hood if you want), both rocker panels including where the foot typically drags when entering/exiting the car, both mirrors, behind all wheels and in the hand wells where you reach in to open the doors.
I have seen people post that they would just get the nose and hood repainted when needed but go ask a good body shop man what that would cost - especially if you have a tint coat like mine.
I don't have money to throw away. That is exactly why I spent this. On a $53,000 car why not spend $900 to keep it perfect?
I have the VentureShield on my '07 and its paid for itself several times over and then some. I replaced it after a little over 2 years of service and only after getting hit with a flying sign type something that appeared from under a car in front of me on the freeway. The VentureShield did its job and the car wasn't harmed.
Had VentureShield installed 1/3 up hood and panels along with front fascia, mirrors and door handles. About $650 installed.
Great product and very strong. Only drawback is it does scratch easily. Now better to scratch the shield then the paint though. You cannot buff out VentureShield like you can with the 3M product.

You are correct.
I have Ventureshield on the hood -- full coverage and Ventureshield was (and maybe still is) the only manufacturer who makes material wide enough to cover the full hood. I don't like visible panty lines
The rest of the nose, rockers, lower doors up to the shadow line and front of the rear quarter up to the gas door is 3M material.
There is a slight difference -- the 3M is a little smoother -- but you have to be real close and have very good eyesight to tell the difference.
My installer felt the Ventureshield was a little easier to install. Just his opinion though.

yes, they are different (VS was bought by 3M in recent year/years). the 3M has a clear coat on it. that's why some people complain about the orange peel on 3M. VS does not have this coating on it.
I have Ventureshield and you guys that have this installed, is it absolutly perfect. Mine has some loose spots and a couple of small bubbles + the surface is not smooth, it has some grain to it. I'm just trying to decide if i got a bad install or these small things are normal? You can't tell any of them unless you look real close.

I had Venture shield put on the front of my wife's Benz as well as my VY Vette. The MB is black and it's obvious that the film scratches easily and you can see them easier on black. VY is very forgiving as far as the film goes. It's hard to see the seems and I can't even see any scratches on the film.
