Default Tire Question

Hi all,
Looking to replace my tires on a stock c6 z51 vette 2005.

I am looking for some good but cost effective tires, not tooo expensive!!

I searched for the tires, "recommended" by chevy:
Goodyear Eagle f1 SC
p245/40zr-18 front
p285/35zr-19 back

these cost 2300$ for just tires.. a little out of my price range lol

Any tips advice on tires costing around 800-1 grand for the vette would be great!!?? Ive done lots of research and tried to find some answers, but cant decide on good price and some good quality at the same time!!

thanks in advance.

Marc

They're 'only' $1600 at the Tire Rack (+ mouting, balancing, etc). I know that's still out of the price range you wanted to stay in, but just wanted to make sure you don't by your tires from anywhere that charges $2300 for the SC's!

Lots of good reports on the Firehawks (at $1000 for the tires). You could also get the base tires for the Vette - the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-2 EMT's for $1130.

No! No! Not the base GY RFs! I can't wait to get rid of them. Noisy, hard and not impressed with the grip!

On the other hand, if you don't drive the car too aggressively and want tires that will last twice as long and cost half as much (and are runflats)...they're a great option!!

Default Firestones are RFs too.

And their grip is better and they are quieter, smoother and last just as long if not longer - based on the last set I installed. These comparisons are based on the base GY RFs not the Z51 tires.

BFG Goodrich KDW II. You can get a brand new set, delivered, for about 1000 bones. Awesome traction, awesome looks.

my choice.

second choice, the Firehawks.

but please .......never forget... the tire is what lets all that engineering of these fine cars go into effect on the road.... you skimp on tires, you might as well drive a Prius.

Default Tires

One other VERY important thing. My dealer (where I bought my Vette) said there is a price match guarantee by GM at the moment. He matched the price of 4 new tires from Tire Rack. I got the tires, mount, balance, and road hazard warranty at a rock bottom "Tire Rack" price.

I think the Goodyear Supercar tires are expensive. But they do grip very well on dry pavement in warm weather. This saved my butt a few weeks ago when a blue haired lady ran a red light and then stopped in the intersection. I thought my Corvette was a goner. But thanks to the grip (traction) of the expensive Goodyear Supercar tires, the ABS brakes, and of course my excellent driving skill, I missed her by 6 inches. I think I will "stick" with the sticky tires. Even though they are expensive. The way I see, they paid for themselves.

When it comes to such a nice performance car, like the C6, I just do not think tires are where I want to cut corners on cost.
