Most people who want GPS nav in their cars these days buy a car with GPS already integrated. In a few years, it wouldn't surprise me if GPS nav is standard in EVERY new car.
Now, if Escort dumped the GPS nav and made the same mirror with built-in 9500ix capability and display, they'd already have my money!!
Seems a lot like the camera systems we use in the police cars where I work. Normally it's just a mirror, but when they turn on the lights/sirens the right side turns into a video screen of what the camera sees (and other things, of course).
Personally, I'd rather it not be a permanent GPS display and be a radar detector with a display that cuts through the mirror when needed to avoid cutting down on rear visibility, but I like the idea of using the rearview mirror for secondary purposes. For the longest time, they've either been plain mirrors or mirrors with a little compass on them.

I agree it will cut rearview visibility with the way the mirror has the GPS display. It seems it would not be ideal for lane changes as well. It would also be kind of annoying to me after a while.

i saw this and thougt it was something i thought of long ago. i should prob patent this idea but how about a mirror with a radar detector in the mirror so no one can tell its attacted to your windshield??

I think a radar detector in the mirror is a great idea. On the flip side, putting a nav system in a small corner of a mirror does not sound very practical or easy to see/use. If anyone buys one of these things I would love to hear about their experience.
