Default SRT8 to Corvette?

Hi everyone,

I currently own a 2007 Charger SRT8 in Plum Crazy with a Mopar CAI and Mopar(Corsa) exhaust. One of only 300 made. I have really enjoyed this car but have been in love with Corvettes for most of my 49 years.

I have found a 2007 Convertible with F55, AT, chrome wheels and 2LT package with only 4500 miles on it for $39,450. The color is machine silver with the titanium(?) top. It is extremely sharp and I am sorely tempted to take the plunge into my first vette but have some questions:

Is the price fair or too high? What would be a good deal in today's market?

Will I be disappointed in the LS2 vs. waiting for an LS3 2008 model down the road?

What does it take to achieve LS3 power levels from an LS2?

Will I regret not looking for a 3LT?

The F55 option - is it worth it? I have trouble telling the difference between the two settings. Could it be malfunctioning?

Will I miss my nasty looking and rare Mopar musclecar?

Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated to help me make a decision. Thanks everyone!

I currently own a srt8 grand cherokee and a 08 vette cpe. Love them both. What I didn't love was my 07 vert. In my estimation the ls3 is leeps and bounds over the ls2. The 08's and 09's also have the steering upgrade which I didn't notice. I know some of the ls2 guys will chime in here but they are probably from the north with better times than I got out of my ls2. At the same strip here in Fla. my ls2 ran 13.6 stock while my ls3 ran 12.1. Good luck with your search and the z51 is more desireable to most over the f55

Well, the Corvette is well faster then the Dodge. But IMO I'd look for and LS3. It is a great motor with great performance. Acheiving the same amount from the LS2 to the LS3 is not much of a difference in cosmetics, some say the LS2 engine is great too. I had a LS2 and I feel a big difference in performance.

You are losing about 800lbs. I don't think there will bere that much differance between a LS2 and a LS3. You drove the car? Sometimes F55 is hard to tell the difference.

if you're looking for a performance suspension, look to the Z51. The F55 is really intended for people who live on rough roads and need the option of having a little bit smoother ride. Of course, both suspensions are wonderful. It comes down to personal preference.

For the engine, drive both and decide for yourself. There's a 30-36 hp difference, which is noticeable no matter who you are, but it may not be enough to warrant the added cost and search time. Personally, I'm holding out till I can afford an 08 or a Z06 because I know that I won't be happy if I don't get the 'latest and greatest', but that's because I'm young and immature.

I have an ls2 which everyone bashes. But if you look at the times in 1/4 mile performance challenge most of the top times are LS2. Weird since its such a terd according to everyone with an ls3. I would drive both seriously though and just seem if you notice a huge difference and if the difference you regocnize is liveable.

You can achieve great numbers with the ls2 with some simple mods or you can get really extreme. It wont take much to make up the extra 50 (I know its only 36) or so hp difference.

I would beat the bushes for an LS3 AND a 3LT. Nothing wrong with the LS2, but it's a buyers market so why not go for the best you can. You CAN find a better deal on a convertible but you'll have to search a bit.

The 3LT would be a must. The F55 is nice, F55 versus Z51 can start fist fights! Both are good and right with the world.

Nothing wrong with the ol Mopar, but if you're gonna live might as well enjoy it if you can.

Do it right the first time, the second time is always more costly!

Oh and don't be afraid to drive to far off and distant dealers to find your car! It'll open your horizons and after all any GM dealer can service them. The internet, Corvette Forum used Vettes :

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...s-for-sale-98/

and the auto trader online site are a must.

Good choice getting into a Vette, the 08-09 have not only more hp, but other refinements to the handling, however nothing wrong with a 07

I've got an 07 3LT Vert.

for the car your looking at you shouldnt be over 35k.

Otherwise seek out an 08 with 3LT and F55 (or Z51) for 39k

......that's what I was thinking too....pretty strong price for an '07 --- for that kind of money you could certainly find a 1LT or 2LT NEW 2008, I think...........check the dealer inventory listed here on the forum.

Try to get the LS3 but if the one you are looking at floats your boat big time, get it. You could spends months finding the right LS3 vert.

Don't worry about the LS2 being down on power compared to the LS3. It's easily made up with some bolt on mods. My 2006 LS2 with LG Pro LT headers and a tune made the exact same horsepower as my new stock LS3. I did not notice the steering feel difference.

You may have had a bum LS2 engine or something, because the LS3 is only a very few tenths of a second quicker to the 1/4 mile that the LS3. You are also comparing a convertible to a coupe. The coupe will always be a few tenths of a second quicker.

An LS2 Coupe, Z-51, 6 speed manual is actually faster to the 1/4 mile than an LS3 Convertible non Z-51, automatic.

In case you haven't guessed, I have an LS2 Coupe, Z-51, 6 speed manual Plus once you replace the OEM tires with Michelin PS2's, like I have, this might deduct another couple tenths.

I challenge any LS3 Stock Convertible, non Z-51, automatic to a race

KBB Private Party Value for excellent condition for that car is $41,740.
Don't know the condition of the car or your location, but those would be the only 2 variables. Someone else responded earlier and said the price should be around $35k. That sounds aweful LOW, compared to KBB. Not everything is selling at KBB prices, but almost $8k under KBB is streatching it. That's about a $58k MSRP car new in 2007. No way it dropped to $35k in 2+ years, especially with extremely low miles.

You should be able to get an LS3 for 40,000. 2LT or 3LT. Go with the LS3 !!! I owned a 2006, a 2007 and now a 2008,,,, so just trust me !! LS3's rule.

Your car market in TX might be different than ours in AZ. No one is getting a 2008 Convertible here with low miles like that for $35k. Way too much sunshine and 9 months of convertible use here in AZ drives the prices up a little.

Hi, just wanted to put in my two cents here. I just traded in my 07 grand cherokee SRT8 on an 08 base coupe with a six speed manual Z51 and NPP exaust. The car is way faster than the SRT8 in fact they aren't even in the same league. As far as going for the LT3 i dont think you will miss it. I had every option available in my GC srt8 and now I have just a pure car and I love it. just to let you know I picked up my 08 with the above options and 10,000 miles for 36 grand. Also when and if you trade in your vette you wont get anything back on the LT3 package. Normally I get somewhat emotional when I let a car go but I never even looked back when I let the SRT8 go for the Vette. Also I am not sure if you have had any problems with the SRT8 but mine was a maintenance nightmare. All in all I don't think you will miss it, i know I don't. After all you have wanted a vette for 49 years!!! that kind of passion for a car will override any type of hesitation you might have. LS2 vs LS3 i am not sure I have never driven the LS2. Good luck and if you have any other questions let me know.

Mike
