On my 5,000 mile 2008 Conv. with Mag. Handling, I just had my shifter refuse to work. I yanked on it pretty hard and it went into Drive & Neutral only. The button release on the shifter does not release and I can not put into park. Take it into my garage, and it will not go into park and when I walk into the house and alarm locks it up. Next morning, battery is dead as a doornail and I have to manuelly get into teh car and jump the battery. Searched the Forum and did not find any similar problems. Is this unusual? Any suggestions on how to keep it from handing. At the Dealer now, awaiting a "ruling" and when they can fix it.
It's at the dealer now and they are saying a couple of days to get parts for the shifter! I wanted to see if it was a common problem and after I could not find it on the Forum, I thought I would. Thanks for the advise!

There have been a few on here who reported their A6 shifter locked up or completely fell apart. Haven't seen actual explanations why. And haven't seen the same issue with 06, 07 or 09, just the 08's. It gets repaired under warranty and as far as I know there have been no repeats. If you find out exactly what broke please let us know. Good luck.

Rick, The guys at the dealership really try to take care of me as I like to "Grease the Wheels" of warrenty work since I bought the car used. I will report back on what actually broke. Thanks for the reply,
Dan

Sounds like a bad/ broken spring? I took mine apart when I replaced my shifter **** and cap... Pretty thin flimsy and fragile parts I.M.H.O. I had to play with the parts for twenty minutes to get them to work properly(w/o sticking.)
This morning when it was dead as an Armadillo in middle of IH 10, I wanted to get to someone who has done it before. I think I will let GM fix it as long as it is warrenty and with 5,000 on it, the warrenty still has a way to go. Not having reverse limits my ability to drive too far! Don't get me wrong, LOVE THE CAR and I just want to learn as much as I can. Thanks for input!

happened to me, I had to get it replaced, it has happened to a few on here. When mine was in for it another vette was flat bedded in with the same problem David
Hi, my 2008 Coupe vel yel, F55,per ax, nav,A6,LT3, pol.wheels, had the same problem at only 1K. I could not shift to park or reverse. The battery died overnight because the electronics do not turn off unless in park. I had it flat beded to the dealer. They said they replaced a spring assembly in the shifter that had broken. It was very funny when this happened because without reverse, my partner and I had to do the Flintstones thing and push the vette back with our feet out the doors to get out of the parking space. All we could say was yaba daba doo.
No problem since. BTW. I had an 04 Lt2 coupe plain jane for 2 years. The LS3 with the perf axle on my 2008 absolutely rocks. It has broken in beautifully and hauls a** but still says 29mpg at 75 at 1500 rpm.
New shifter came in on Monday as I put the car in the shop on Saturday. Was told not parts are aviable so order a new shifter and should be ready about Tuesday noon.
Guys,
Delivered on time and as promised. They are checking to see if their is an upgreade on A6 1-2 shift for the Paddle/Sport to keep from hitting redline.
