Do I have to use a specific tool to remove the cig. socket plug or there another way of doing this?
Hate to buy a tool I will only use once or twice.
Thanks.
there are 2. one in the console and one in the tray beneath the radio. both disconnect the harness. if you need to remove, I used flat blade screwdriver and lots of patience
As noted each of them have an electrical connector that can be disconnected at the base. If you actually need to remove the socket itself from the console, yes there is a specially designed tool for this.
It is a stamped flat metal handle with a t shape to the end. It basically is designed to engage two slots on the inside of the lighter receptacle and expand two spring loaded detents that are inside. The two tabs connect the inner sleeve to the outer base.
You can use a single or a pair of very small flat blade screwdrivers and get the parts of the lighter socket to separate. You will need a lot of patience and a little bit of manually dexterity. I've done it and it is a PITA.

Reason: spelling
Yes as Paul mentioned it is a special t looking type of tool with a handle on it. It isn't cool to have to buy one for a one time use, but it does remove the item in seconds.
