Today on a road trip at one of our stops I could not open the rear hatch on our 2008 Coupe with the inside release or from the key Fob. Then we went to eat. Returning we saw the yellow front lights on. Started the car. Played with the light switch and they went off. Then the rear hatch was able to be opened. Any explenation for this wierd behavior?

Yeah, GM is importing Lucas (Prince of Darkness) electrics.
I have had similar problems with my vert. The dealer discovered a problem with one of the sensors that are part of the top system. You may have a sensor related to your hatch that is bad or out of adjustment. They were able to detect a code that led them to the sensor.
I also have intermittent chiming when I open the door to enter or exit the car which did not cease when the sensor was replaced.
