Default Alignment? Or something else?

Ever since I got my ZR1 wheels, I've noticed the the steering wheel shakes pretty bad. I've taken it in to the same dealer twice for an alignment and it still does it. I even took the small clips off the wheelhub to ensure the wheel is on there right. However, it still does it.

I'm kinda lost. My tires appear fine. I don't see any bend/cracks in my wheels. Am I missing something here?

Sounds like the wheels were poorly balanced

I think it is either wheel balance or a wheel assembly (wheel and tire) that is slightly out of round. If you jack up one of the front wheels until there is about 1/4 inch between the tire and the ground, then spin the tire by hand and watch the gap between tire and ground, any out of round condition will be very easy to see. The gap should remain constant as the wheel turns...
Balance needs to be checked on a good machine.

I very much doubt that alignment is involved.

I agree, sounds like out-of-balance or out-of-round.

Have the wheels "ROAD FORCE" balanced. It's not a normal computerized spin balance. Not all dealerships or tire shops have a Road Force balancer. Call around to see who does. It's not cheap, but it will solve your problem.

That will minimize any variance between the wheel and tire. It will also determine if you have a bad tire, or an out of round wheel.

Go here:http://www.gsp9700.com/

See the tab, upper right? Locate a machine. Plug in your zip. It'll show who in your area has one.

If you used your old tires and they were fine before, that probably only leaves 2 things: the balancing (likely), or the wheels themselves (not unlikely).

Good luck, tell us how it turns out!

Just curious. Who made them and are they hub or lug centric?

Cool link. That actually works. It listed my dealership on there.

Thanks. I looked it up, and there are a couple of shops near by(Thankfully). Obviously, something happened the day I got the tire put on. I think it is out of round due to bad alignment. I looked at my tires, and the front left tire has some weird line in the sidewall. right above where the tire size/rating is. It goes all the way around the tire.

Weird the dealer didn't see this when it was taken to them for an balance/alignment twice.

When I bought the car, I paid extra for the tire protection. Will they honor it still since I put those tires on a different set of wheels?

UPDATE:

Took the car in today. That "line" I mentioned now looks like more of a crack. I don't have much experience with run flats, so my only guess is that the tire is starting to seperate. When I get to 75 mph, the bottom half starts going one way, the top half another. I dunno.
