Default Programining a Fob?

For some reason my remote will open my doors, and trunk. But when i try to start the car it says " no fob detected. I changed the battery but still no dice. It took me twenty mins in a parking lot before it finally worked. I am going to buy a new one online, but the dealer said they charge $300.00 to program it. Does anyone know somewhere else I could go? Thank you for any help. Thomas

If it will unlock the doors and open the trunk, it doesn't need programming.

You've got other problems that you may or may not be able to fix.

Try putting the fob in the slot in the glovebox, with the buttons pointed toward the passenger side of the car and try to start the car. If that works, either something in your car or pocket is interfering with the signal from the fob.

Remove all cell phones & cell phone chargers from the car and your pockets. Be sure the car is not sitting somewhere that has a high energy source from outside the car.

Report back here with what happened after you did this.

$300.00 that dealer should be arrested. Once you get your new fob come back here and we can provide the directions to program it yourself.

Be advised however that the no fob detected is more likely a problem with external interference or with the car itself rather than the fob. If it can open the doors it should start the car. The requirements for communication between the fob and the car are the same be it opening the door or starting the car. It is an interrogation sequence and a handshake between the fob and the car either way. You run the risk of having problems programming a new fob under these circumstances.

Is your car a 2008 by chance? There was a recall on early 2008 cars for replacement of the RCDLR (remote control door lock receiver) which was faulty from the supplier.

Inside the glovebox (not the center console) on the left hand side is a slot. Place the fob in the slot with the buttons facing the passenger side door. This is the emergency slot for the fob in the event that your fob battery ever died. This will allow the use of the fob to start the car even with a dead battery in the fob.

I have the same problem on my 2009 if I throw the FOB in the center console co-located with my IPOD that I wired there with a USA Spec adapter. I get FOB not detected 50% of the time. If the FOB is in my jeans pocket, no issues at all. Strange...

Strange, yes, but it is a well known issue here....as is the fob being in the same pocket as the cellphone.

Not really. 2009 owner's manual, page 2-5.

If there is a decrease in the keyless access transmitter
range, try this:

• Make sure that an electronic device such as a
cellular phone or lap top computer is not causing
interference.

If you are getting the 'NO FOB DETECTED' message, then the push start switch *is* operating properly.

If you are still confused, all of the good advice everyone is giving you is also in your Owner's Manual with detailed explanations and diagrams. I recommend you read the section called "Keys".
