Default Door opening glitch

I've done a search and the glitch I'm experiencing seems pretty rare, but I thought I'd post this as a reference thread for the archives, if nothing else. Every now and then, the driver side door on my 2008 coupe has a problem opening. The door will open just a fraction of an inch, and then hangs up. Repeated attempts at opening the door have no effect. The issue happens both when opening the door from the inside or outside. The cure is to shut the door and try again, either by pushing from the outside, or pulling from the inside. I found one thread from 2004 with the exact same problem, but there was no solution.

Nope I got nothing... Mine sometimes hangs up like that but pressing the button (inside or out) will still open it all the way.

You say that after that fraction of an inch it "hangs up". Can you describe this in any more detail? Do you believe it to be the door latch hanging up as if the door did not fully release or is it something else that you feel may be binding?

It's a mechanical solid stop which seems to be coming from the latch mechanism. I think it's an issue with the latch.

Are you by chance just pushing the switch for like a part of a second, then releasing it? Sort of... releasing it too quickly? I had it happen once too me and I quickly knew I had not held the button quite long enough. Past that, I push and hold for like a second and haven't seen a problem since. Not sure if that is what's going on.

So I'm not the only one. When this happened to my wife, she used the emergency latch release to get out of the car at her office, and the battery discharged in a couple of hours. The dealer couldn't find a problem. So, the important thing is to pull the door closed and retry rather than use the emergency handle.

This happens with my '08 coupe from the outside only, but it seems to stick for some reason and not open all the way, or I have to keep yanking it (the door!). I would rather go back to a fob that you can just hit the button and the door unlocks.

Enough people have reported this as an issue that I'm just going to live with it unless it gets worse. It seems to be a quirk of the car.

My 06 happens sometimes too. It was happening a lot and it almost seemed as if it had something to do with the FOB in my pocket. I changed the battery and it might be coincidental but it happens a lot less often now. I really only notice it if the car sits for a day or two without driving it.
