Default rear hatch pull down problems

I have an 06 with about 11000 miles that is two months out of warranty. When the car was about 6 months old, ( still under warrranty ), the hatch pull down feature started failing intermittently. At times I would have to slam it shut. This occured whether I had used the fob, the dash button or the rear button to open it. The pull down motor/latch assembly was replaced. It has worked fine untill just the past couple of weeks. Twice it has taken spells of the same malady and each time it has cured itself after sitting for a few hours. Any ideas as to what causes this, any cures and who else has expereinced it?

Id go into the dealership and tell them you came in with the same problems when you were under warranty and its back. If they are decent people then they will probably help you out or at least give you a discount on the repair.

I've replaced two of these pull down mechanisms on by Cadillac STS. They are expensive and I've became pretty gun shy about these things. I gently lower the rear window lid of my 08 until it just rests on the mechanism. It will come to rest about 1/2 inch high. Then I gently push on the lid, the pull down mechanism motor turns on and snugs the lid down. And the same with the Caddy. A problem is training the other family members to do the same. People tend to just slam these things down.

I had an 08 & currently an 09. That feature never really worked for me. But I'd try the dealer who knows you may luck out

I have on '05 with 40,000 miles and have had no problem with it at all. My guess would be that the problem was not with the parts replaced but a wiring/switch problem which has again become intermittent. Wish I could suggest a troubleshooting method but I don't know anything about the circuitry.

Since it's already been worked on once, and it's barely out of warrantee, I would hope the dealer would try to get GM to 'good will' cover it.

I had an alternator replaced on my '01 ( about 5 years ago ) and they said the part was warrantied for life and I would just have to pay labor. Does GM still offer this ?

I've only had a lifetime warrantee on the replacement parts, never a lifetime warrantee on the original OEM part that came withthe vehicle originally. Has something changed with warrantees? This would be good news!
