Default Lost Voice Recognition

I've lost voice recognition for my Navigation/Radio. When I try to give a command it just comes back and says command not recognized, re-phrase command or something like that. When I hit the button you push to give voice command and say nothing and wait a few seconds, I get the same response. That makes me think I've got a bad mike or connection to the mike. Where is the mike? When I look through the shop manual to find some info on this, I find conflicting info on where the mike is. One place says the mike is above the rear view mirror, another says on the left A-pillar and another place says in dash about your right knee. I'm not sure it's the mike just thought I would start there. All other functions of the Navigation/Radio work with no problems, just no voice recognition. Has anyone else dealt with this issue? Can anyone give me any tips? Help!

What was the fix? Was it working okay after battery was charged or replaced?

The mic is in the upper left A-pillar on mine. I didn't know anyone actually used the voice.

Speak clearly and plainly. That should solve it.

Good luck.

I've tried that, besides it has worked in the past and I'm speaking the same as before.

I have used voice a time or two in the past but you are correct in that all functions can be done manually.

Are you sure the mike is in tha A-pillar? Mine also has a grille there that could be a mike but I also have a grille in the dash. Like I said above the Shop Manual is not clear on location of the mike. I'm not sure if On-Star, cellular phone or voice recognition use same mike or different mikes. I thought maybe the On-Star uses the mike in the A-pillar if you have On-Star, I don't have On-Star but have place for On-Star mike in A-pillar, I think. All C6's as far as I know have the grille in the A-pillar for a mike even if you don't have On-Star. It's all confusing to me and I have a Shop Manual.

The mic in the A piller is for the factory Navigation and Onstar if equip.
I know this does not help your problem but just trying to help you clear up the location of the mic location.

If you have a lot of ambient cabin noise - i.e. - passenger talking while you give command, window down, loud exhaust - you can forget it! Also, make sure you are using correct syntax!

From what i understand:

- The mic in the A pillar is used for Navigation and OnStar. If you have OnStar try making a call to see if the person on the other end can hear you. If that works then you know the mic is ok.

- There is a separate connector on the back of the NAV unit that feeds audio from the mic into the nav unit itself. AFAIK It's the only thing used on the connector; it's highly unlikely (assuming voice nav worked before) but i guess possible that it's not seated properly.

Thanks for all inputs on this topic. Has anyone had a similar problem and if so, what was the fix?

Yes, I had a similar problem. After I put in the sound insulating blankets from TKO Performance, voice recognition worked fine again. Just my experience.

I appreciate your input on this matter but I don't think my problem is noise. My voice recognition worked fine for the first several years and it just become a problem recently. I have also attempted operation in total quiet without any engine noise just setting with ignition on and engine not running. I'm thinking it almost has to be a mike or wiring to mike problem, but I don't know where to start without taking apart the panels inside the car. That may be my only option though, got to start somewhere. I'm just trying to get all the info and input on this problem before I start the hunt.

On a trip to Maine I tried Voice recognition to impress my wife what a advanced system it was. Well it did not work and Iwas so mad I told it to go @%$# itself. Then it wakes up and says showing ATM's and Mexican resturants. We nearly died laughing that was the last time iused it . Face it the Nav and voice is a waste of money and a joke.My $200 garmin is what I take with me on trips now.

It doesn't work very well if there is a lot of noise.

Sounds like the Microphone and or the connection is the problem.

it's not the best but it does work well enough for me. I also have a Garmin for another vehicle and I see faults in both.

In any case I would like for my OEM Navigation to work as well as it can even though it's not the best.

I didn't start this thread to bash the OEM Navigation, we all know it has faults. I'm just trying to get the voice recognition part working as it did when I took ownership. It works perfectly fine for my use manually.
