Waited 3 years for a Camaro, ended up buying a Vette!

Chrome wheels should be standard equipment on red and black Corvettes.
Your right the competition grey wheels are dull.
Why anyone would want to pay extra for dull wheels is beyond me.
The performance axle should also be standard equipment on every Corvette.
I ordered chrome wheels and performance axle on my black/ebony 08 coupe.
Two options I couldn't live without.

Your logic is flawless and your decision is solid. A Camaro is a Camaro and I'm not convinced , in terms of handling, it's all that different from those of many years past.
The C6 is the finest vette ever built. It may hold that title too depending on what happens in the near future to the line etc.
have fun
as for the mention that the new Camaro has 60s styling.....I beg to differ. I owned a 68 SS 396 coupe in the summer of 68 and some years later two all stock original 69 Z28s.
The new Camaro has a few tiny so called "styling cues" from these cars but comes off, to my old brain at least, as a high, top heavy, squat luxury sedan. Now, that's not a bad thing....if that's what you want. But the 69 Z28 looks fast sitting still which is something that I don't get from the new Camaro.
Also, I agree with some who've said that most Camaros will be V6s and , with the heavy weight of the car, won't be going anywhere very fast.....the whole image is going to get dragged down by these grocery getters. The car won't be that much lighter than the V8 version....it's still going to be very heavy.

The best new Camaro is probably a nicely optioned V6 one...a great cruiser, although a bit big. the vette kills on performance for similar money...I went the same way you did and got a similar $42k discounted 2008 last year.

Haha, can you believe the original would-be owner turned down this car cause it didn't have the dull gray wheels? I can't imagine, they pull up in this ride and the customer is like "What, chrome wheels?! Deal is off!"

No way I'd ever get a V6 Camaro but that's just me.

Melting Slicks
Camaro SS = $37K
0-60 = 4.5
Quarter mile = 12.9 sec @ 110.7 mph
Braking, 60-0 mph = 112 ft
Lateral acceleration = 0.88 g (avg)
EPA city/hwy fuel econ = 16/24 mpg
VS.
Corvette LS3 = $47K
0-60 = 4.1
Quarter mile = 12.5 sec @ 115.0 mph
Braking, 60-0 mph = 110 ft
Lateral acceleration = 0.97 g (avg)
EPA city/hwy econ = 16/26 mpg
Close on some things, but for $10K more, I believe you are getting a lot more car for your buck.

Nah, I already have a Camaro order at MSRP. I'm gonna start looking for a 09 Vette.
IMO GM screwed the camaro production. It's been 7 weeks and the damn thing hasn't even been built yet.
Look at my timeline, how the hell does a car sit at 3000 status for a month?
1100, Preliminary order accepted (5.23.09)
2000, Accepted by GM (5.26.09)
2500, Preferenced (5.26.09)
3000, Accepted by production control (5.27.09)
3300, Scheduled for production (6.23.09)
Not to mention there are dudes that either reached 3000 after me, or ordered after me and they have alreayd blown past me. My car has no constraints, just a blk/blk 2ss/rs mn6.
But like I said I'm gonna start looking at Vettes.

Ordered both of mine in May (6th-15th) and got them both within 4 days of each other, 1st week of July.

Been said several times already, but same thing happened to me. I ordered a 2SS RS inferno orange when I found a dealer who would "order" it with a deposit. Was around 37k with my options IIRC. I was hounding them weekly for status updates, and kept being told to be patient.
Well I kept coming back to this form and found my 09 for 39,999, 12k off sticker from Stringray Chevy. Awesome dealer and Matt was cool to deal with.
Like others, it was a no brainer to spend 2k more for a 52k msrp car vs having to wait for the Camaro and be upside down so bad when they are comon everywhere. Some think it is good that MSRP for Camaro is just above dealer cost, but to me that just hurts resale. Because if you do your homework and get a great deal you are in a better position that 90% of the others that do not.
No regrets here!
Oh almost forgot. Never said a word to the dealer I ordered the Camaro from since I bought the Vette, figuring I might still want to get it. Still havent been called once with an update. Been on "order" since April.

Lucky guy,,, got chrome gumbys !!! those are the wheels i want on my vette!
Wise choice vs the camaro. The car cost a bit more but youll be driving a corvette, not a camaro. Full 430 HP / 436HP if you got NPP, and a much lighter car weight definetively makes a difference.
