Default need help

I have a 2005 automatic and alot of times when I turn the wheel or hit small bumps I hear a clunking sound. Sometimes it sounds in the front and sometimes the rear. My son is a ASE certified machanic so I had him put it on the rack and he found nothing loose or what appeared to be making the sound. He did drive it and hear it so he went to his computer for all the TSBs for the 2005 and came across a issue with the differential needing the fluid to be replaced. Do you folks think this may be the issue.

Thanks Jim

Doubt it if you are at speed above say 10 or 15 mph. The tsb you mention helps fix a grinding, crunching type noise if I remember correctly.

I got my differential fluid changed, but the clanging only occurred when backing up.

Sounds like a ball joint.

I haven't experienced this with my vette but on my DD when it clunked I found a bad ball joint. When it was more of a rattle the problem was sway bar links.

Just had mine done last week at my local dealer with no questions asked. The service manager at Heritage Chevy was familiar with the issue took a couple of hours, problem solved. He explained that they have changed the type of synthetic fluid from when the car (2006) was built.

If you find out it's not the differential fluid, it may be the sway bar end links. They have been known to go bad and make a clunking noise while hitting bumps at low speeds. Do a search on end links and you will find more info on the subject.

Dave O you are the man. I just ordered a set of LG end links. When I did the search everyone was talking about my problem. I am doing the links and the fluid change or should I say my son will. It is great to have a machanic son with a lift. I cant wait to get rid of this annoying noise.

I was thinking end links from what I've read on here, too. Tell us if this solves your issue.

It could be the end links on the sway bar. They have a habit of going bad early in their life.

I heard noises in my 07 and read on here about an issue with axel nuts being loose. Took it to the dealer and sure enough. 2 were finger tight and the other 2 were looser than spec. They tightened them to spec and the noise was gone.

I also had the differential noise issue with both my 07 and now with 08. Had the fluid changed in the 07 and the noise was gone and never appeared again. Just had the 08 fluid changed 2 weeks ago and it is fine so far.

I had a clunking sound when I hit bumps, sounded like a suspension noise, but the dealer said they found a problem with the muffler hangers.

I also had the sounds from the rear end and had the fluid change which really helped.

To all,

The LG end links installed and the vette is now quiet as a mouse. I love this fourm. I really thought I was going to have to go get raped from the dealer. These links are also super duty links, they make the stock look like they should go on a go-cart.

Thanks my corvette family
