Default C6 vs. C5

I would like to hear from people that have owned both cars on what they experienced as the differences between the 2 vehicles.
I am most interested to hear comparisons on the convertible models.

After much agonizing I sold my 2K Vert that I had owned for 2 years. I have an 08 Vert that I have had about 6 months. I came close several times to selling the 08 in favor of the 2K.

The cars are totally different animals as far as I am concerned.

The 2K was an MN6 with a tuned LS1. I guess the age and looseness of the car made it feel like a high performance car and ran like a raped ape.

The 08 with the installed LS3 480hp soon to be tunes motor is a more refined car. Maybe from the newness or just the improvement manufacturing over the C5.

The styling of the C5 (interior and exterior) strikes me as more of a guys car where as there seems to be an awful lot of women driving the C6.

I ultimately choose to keep the C6 mainly for the value as I will be replacing it with an 09 or 10 in the not so distant future and will be staying with a Vert. I do like the C6 and enjoy the creature comforts but do miss the simpler mechanical aspects of the C5 at times.

As far as the tops go, I never have been able to get one aspect of the top squared away so for now i have the power pump bypassed and just lower it manually same as I had did in the C5. Takes all of about 30 seconds to do either.

The C6 top is a lot makes it a lot quieter inside than the C5 I had ever thought to be.

I can only compare the C5Z vs the C6Z. I had both cars for two months together before I got the C5Z sold. Difference was very dramatic when I got out of one and immediately got behind the wheel of the other to drive on the same day. The C6 is way ahead. No comparison.

I had a MY A4 2002 convertible. It had F45, G92 performance axle, and the 1SC Preferred Equipment Group. I bought it used with 28k miles in Oct. 2005, and put about 12k miles on it.

Last August, I traded it in on a new VY 2008 convertible. This one has Z51 (and hence the GU2 performance axle), the NPP exhaust, and the 3LT Equipment Group. I've put nearly 6k miles on it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the C5, and I've thoroughly enjoyed the C6.

Things I preferred about the C5:
- Slightly bigger trunk.
- More storage compartments in the trunk (though I rarely used it).
- The dash gauges. I like the C6's (and they are a bit more readable), but I always loved the look of the C5 gauges.
- Manual convertible top.

Things I preferred about the C6:
- Power. Both have lots o' torque down low, but the LS3 feels much stronger in the mid-range, and winds out oh so nicely.
- In-dash CD changer rather than trunk-mounted changer.
- XM radio available.
- I like the way the C6 convertible's rear window is mounted.
- Steering feel is a little better in the 2008.
- I actually like that the center console on the C6 is NOT leather - it's much nicer on a hot day.
- The NPP exhaust rocks baby!
- The C6 is a little quieter with the top up, though I never really considered that a problem with the C5. I don't often travel with the top up, I'll admit.

I never cared for the 2005-2007 wheels or the 2005-2007 silver center dash bezel, but I really like the new center bezel and the stock rims of the 2008.

Drag times:
- C5: 13.39 @ 102.8 mph
- C6: 12.48 @ 115.6 mph

Let me know if I missed any aspects in which you are interested in hearing.

I have seen none of the above mentioned issues in mine but they are out there "IN CERTAIN YEARS". These problems do not pertain to every year C5.

Had a 2k C5 Vert and loved it after partially restoring and driving a 1960 C1. Talk about two different worlds. But, I must say that my '08 Vert is a definite improvement over the C5. Even with the Z51 handling package, it rides better than the C5 with less shake and squeaks and the performance is better with little or no loss in economy IMHO.

The C6 styling took me awhile to warm to, but now I've come to like it. Plus, you don't have to worry if the headlights will pop up when you turn them on.

The difference is like night and day. I still miss my 2001 coupe occasionally but I absolutely love my '09 coupe.

I have an '00 C-5 coupe and an '09 C-6 coupe. I like them both. C-6 of course has more power, but some drawbacks to the C-5. The C-5 has more storage area, gets better gas mileage, IMO a better interior, it has no roof "pop" that many C-6s have (mine doesn't), battery does not run down is you let it sit more than a couple of weeks, the C-5 uses the tried and true "key" to open the door and start the car, the C-6 FOB is nothing but a gimmick that can give you a headache. I find the ride about the same on both, although the C-6 has less road noise than the C-5

I have owned both a C5 coupe and a C6 coupe. I agree with most of the others - the C6 is superior in just about every way. The only thing I miss from my C5 was the ability to display diagnostic codes on the DIC. With a C6, you'll have to have an OBDII scanner (preferably one that supports the CAN bus).

I can't give my 2 cents about the handling of the C5's as all I have ever owned was a C3 and a C6. I for one think the C5's were a waaaaay better looking car than the C6. I would have bought one instead of my C6 but the horsepower was key in my decision making.

I've had a 2002 C5 and a 2007 C6.

The C5 is more like a muscle car, not all the special stuff that the C6 has. The interior was very cheap compared ot the C6. I think the design of the C5 is more classic and will stand the test of time.

The C6 is more luxurious and quieter like a wine that is refined over time. It's more like a luxury sports car compared to the C5 and nicer interior.

I had more headaches thou with the C5 like the column lock and pop up head lights.

I have had an 02 vert, 06 vert and now an 08 coupe. The 08 is far and away better in every way.

I had an '02 vert and I loved it. It was loaded and beautiful. I have an 08 coupe and I don't have all of the goodies (HUD, etc.) and I won't make that mistake again.

There is no way to compare the power of the LS3 to the LS1.

The C6 looks more aggressive to me and I like that.

Both are fine cars but all-in-all the C6 is a better car (so far).

I have 2 C4's (ZR1) a C5 Convert and a C6 ZO6. All are totally different beast's. All of them are great car's.
Naturally , technology moves on (think refinement).
And I'll leave it at that.

I owned a 97 auto C5 Arctic White for better than 4 years and loved everything about the car. I still wish I could have kept it
Now my 05 C6 is a much more refined car, and more powerful although both are blown with ECS kits and tunes.
It took me a while to jump the fence to the C6, but I have no regrets that I did.
That being said, I have nothing bad to say about the C5. it was a blast to own.

I am having a lot more fun and enjoyment out of the c6 though

I still own both a C5 and C6. My take on them as daily drivers when they both had stock HP, not how my C5 is now

My C5 was a DD for over 3 years and my only problem up to 30 was a headlight gear to be changed. What I like about my C5 better than the C6 is the pop up headlights, more roomy interior to include storage, better hwy mileage, and the big butt

What I like about our C6 better is the motor, more down low tq and all the way through the power band, more refined ride, the interior is nicer, though not as much room and the fit and finish is better.

For a DD the C6 is a nicer driver and the C5 is a little rougher around the edges, though both vehicles are awesome platforms

The best that I can offer is a review I did of the C6 upon trading in my C5 and driving the new car home. It is not a covertible so I'll defer those points to others.
