Another trick I found was to take it apart and bend the spring slightly so it has slightly less tension on it. The door falls a bit more slowly but it does come down completely and stays shut when not in use!
Is it difficult to remove the bezel trim and ashtray assembly to reach the spring. I also think I found a replacement for $40.00 I can just replace the faulty unit. Is it a difficult removal?
Once the door is out remove the components attached to inside of the door unit. You will find an ash tray & ash tray holder. Adjust spring tension then re-install only the door and check for opening and movement. When you are happy with door operation only then insert the (ash tray holder) & (ash tray) itself. Job done! The spring re-installation and adjustment is quite easy to do with the holder and tray NOT installed!!!
All kinds of great things on this forum if you'll spend some time using the search capabilities.
It's an open forum just like all the other forums and the same questions get asked time and again. Not a bad thing as it keeps popular topics in front of the eyes of everyone.
Replaced mine it wasnt much money for the ashtray forget the price now it works fine I dont smoke so I just leave it shut all the time good luck with your fix.
