Velocity Yellow is a 'Tri-Coat' color. It has a base coat and color coat and clearcoat. These 3 are all different colors (clear coat is, of course, clear).
I don't think you can say Yellow and get corvette owners to agree it stands for velocity yellow. There are many diffferent shades of yellow, even the C6 was done in two different yellows
Primer is primer for all colors. Basecoat (waterborne) is applied over the primer and then a "tinted clearcoat" (solventborne) is applied over the basecoat.
GM uses different NAMES for the same colors on different makes. The same color on a Buick might have a different name than the same color on a Corvette.
Look for the factory color code instead of the name.

your close, VY top coat{clear coat} DOES have yellow tint in it and is vert difficult to work with, this comes from a car painter that knows what he is talking about, one of the reds is this way too.

I remember seeing a C3, C5 and C6 next to each other all in shades of yellow on one of the dealers websites. I think it was Kerbecks but I cant get it to come up right now(at work). Even in the photo you could really see the difference in the yellows from each generation. It was pretty cool.
