We drove both our 2001 (with GY M+S Winter runflats) and 2006 (with GY A/S runflats) through the winters in Chicago, where there is so much salt on the roads that melt-off is attacking our concrete garage floor. I never noticed any rust on the frame, nor anything on the aluminum parts except some discoloration; but I never looked really hard. The exteriors were awful during the winter but a simple wash & wax each Spring made them good as new.
Now we have the new 2009, and I hope to keep it for a very long time. Has anyone done a detailed inspection of the underside of a C6 that's been regularly driven in the salt and snow? Exterior rust on the frame would be obvious, but the frame is hollow and there could be a lot going on inside the box.
It won't get any worse than any other daily driven car on the road I suppose. I for one like keeping the undercarriage as clean as the top and would never drive my car in the salt, but to each his own.
