Default FOB Again

Well I had my first experience with FOB "hell" tonight. I went out to start the 06 and got nothing but a "click." This happened numerous times. I naturally thought battery, so I jumped it and off we went. I had a thought that maybe I had left something on. We reached our destination so I shut it down then started it right back up. OK I thought, not problem. I come back out 45 minutes later and guess what? "Click"
I noticed that it said "No FOB detected." I put it in the glove box slot and click again. We get jumped and it started again after several tries. I head immediately to AutoZone and have them test the battery. Their tested shows the battery is good. So I buy a battery for the FOB. Click again. This time it won't even let me in the car or unlock the doors. Into the slot we go again to start and head home.
I get the other FOB and it works fine. Now the original FOB does nothing, even after another new battery and trying to reset it as per the instuctions in the manual. I am frustrated now.
Any ideas? I have read the other FOB threads looking for ideas. Two days ago there was no problem at all.
Who is the best source for a new FOB?

It's likely not the FOB.

From the many posts in this forum on the subject, the car battery can test good at any given time, yet be on its last legs and about ready to go out completely.

I'd try to do more to find out what shape the battery is really in.

with both of the above. It is likely not the fob. If the battery is the original one from 2006, then that's most likely the culprit. The fact that you were able to have things work when you jumped the car tells the story. You got a good solid three or four years out of your battery, call it good and just get a new one.

Be sure you cell phone is not close to it. When mine is on my belt above the pocket with the FOB it may not work. Also, check phone chargers, Ipod chargers, Ipod power supplies and the like. I think they are sensitive to external RF signals.

Why would this effect only one fob and not the other? I had never had any other problem with a phone or GPS. I took them out just in case and there was no change.

Just another reason to go back to the standard key! The FOB is more trouble than its worth IMHO.

Since the other FOB works fine, are you 100% sure you installed the new FOB battery in the correct direction? Others have installed their batteries backwards by mistake. It almost sounds as if the FOB battery was starting to die on you and then when you replaced the battery it died altogether. I would open the second FOB, look how the battery is installed then check the first one. If the battery is installed backwards, reverse it and try again.

Have you tried the good and bad FOB after you got home? Maybe in the morning try the bad one, then if it still don't work and the good one does then it has to be the FOB. May swap the batt. between the two and see if the problem follows the old batt. or if the original FOB works with the new (used) batt.. Could be the new batt. you put in the FOB was bad or as stated put in backwards.

2006 owner's manual, page 2-9.

3. Put the new battery in the transmitter, positive (+)
side down.

Reminds me of the time years ago when my '65 Ford wouldn't turn over. So, of course I replaced the starter. But that wasn't the problem. Long-story-short, not only had the battery discharged but one of the cables had serious hidden corrosion.

I haven't heard of any C6 with a battery cable corrosion problem. Probably still too new. But it's worth a quick check before you replace the battery.

Glad it was that simple. Your description of the problem sure looked like a FOB problem from the start, but you have to remember there are always two answers you can count on here.

1. Just change the battery.
2. Get a lawyer and sue.

No, they're prone to trouble too. Let's go back to the crank on the outside front of the car. Nobody ever locks them in the car.

While we're at it, just get rid of the windows too - don't have to worry about things like indexing.

Gotta give you a thumbs up for this post. By fessing up to the error you've likely saved many a future owner with the same issue the headaches you went through. And I mean that in a positive way. Thanks!

The system works just fine. Just because the OP installed the FOB battery backwards is no reason to throw out the technology. I guess if you try to put your key in the ignition wrong we ought to get rid of them as well.
