Hi all:
Usually I hang out in the C4 section but have a question from a buddy here in Nova Scotia. He has a C6 (2005) with approx. 8,000 miles on it, automatic. Says he drives along and the car will stall with no warning. Pulls to the side, puts in neutral or park, pushes ignition button and it starts. Has done this several times and has had it in the shop. Has yet to find a proper answer, stalled while idling in the shop! I told him about this forum and how helpful people are. Hopefully, you can assist this guy. Thanks in advance and "save the wave".
Its really hard to point a direction to look without more information. Such as, are there any DIC warnings when this happens? Are the guages/electrical all still working or dead? Bad gas with water in it? He needs to get a "CAN" enabled code reader and see if there are any codes.

As noted, this will be much easier to diagnose with information about the codes that the car will have stored. If it came on suddenly it could be as simple as bad gasoline but it could also be other problems. Have him scan the codes and post the information here and we can do a much better job of helping identify the problem.
Without any other information to work with, sounds like a fuel problem....fuel pump; clogged pickup (unusual if only 8000 miles).....as several others have pointed out, need to see if any codes are being thrown.
Have a fellow here in Windsor that has a 2005 automatic, 14,000 km on it.

Also put some water eliminator in the gas tank won't hurt. Mine was stalling and the Corvette engineer at BG couldn't figure it out, BUT my pharmacist did, he said: "water in the gas" and he was right. Try it, it won't hurt. Talked to engineer at BG later and he said: "I didn't think of that". Now do it!
