Default Air Conditioner Mold 2007 Convertible

My car 2007 Corvette convertible sits in the garage at night and I drive one mile to work each day. With only 9,000 miles it still smelt like brand new until about a year ago it started to smell like dirty socks when the air was turned on. I've had it at Estero Bay Chevrolet three times and after a month or two same old problem. What use to smell like a brand new car now smells like a 30 year old car. I bought the additional warranty so it is completely covered. I just don't want these guys to destroy my new car like they did my 2001. They had the door panels off so many times putting six power window motors that the door panel flapped around like an old junker. Has anyone else had this problem with the 2007 Corvette air condition mold like me?

As a Florida native, I feel your pain. After they get it cleaned up, insist they activate the afterblower feature of the HVAC. There are oter threads about it on the forum and the service manual has step-by-step instructions.

Afterblow Enable Procedure
The afterblow mode can be enabled using the scan tool. The afterblow mode allows the blower motor to operate after the engine has been turned off. This operation of the blower motor dries the evaporator core, which reduces the amount of microbial growth which can create undesirable odors.

Use the following procedure in order to enable the afterblow mode:

Connect the scan tool.
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Select HVAC Module.
Select HVAC Systems Automatic.
Select Special Functions.
Select HVAC.
Select Afterblow Option.
Select ENTER to enable the afterblow.
When done, use the soft key to save changes.
When afterblow has been enabled by the scan tool the blower motor will operate between medium and high speed for 4 minutes after the engine has been turned off.

The following conditions must be met for the HVAC module to operate the afterblow:

The outside air temperature must be at least 21°C (70°F).
The A/C compressor must operate for more than 2 minutes.
The engine must be turned off for at least 45 minutes.
The system voltage must be at least 12 volts.

cheers!

How do you know all this stuff Breakskeet?

I would sure think this would help the guy...provided the dealer gets it clean and free from mold...

A great recommendation...

try not using the a/c so often. give it time to dry out...completely. i live in hot-as-hell dallas and hardly ever use the a/c. when i do, at the urging of the wife, it never has a smell. oh...it's daily-driven, about 25-30 miles a day (19k on the clock).

In addition to turning on "afterblow" in the software, you should consider the deodorizing procedure described in the Technical Service Bulletin for this issue. The TSB describes both the afterblow and deodorizing process. If you already have the mold issue turning on afterblow will only prevent future mold buildup but will not get rid of the already existing odor.

My '08 was taken care of under warranty. If your '07 is still under warranty your dealer should be able to fix it as a warranty issue.

If you don't have the afterblow turned on, it's a good idea to push the "snowflake" button to turn off the compressor and run the fan on high for 10 minutes before reaching your destination to dry out the evaporator case before you leave the car.
