So after 3.5 years of ownership, my C6 started to display the air bag light(first issue with the car). This is a 2006 C6, and I noticed that it started last week when it was close to 99 degrees outside. Is this usually a connection issue? or something more serious. I am already beyond my warranty period.
One common issue is that the wiring connector under a seat, usually the driver side, starts to come loose. That happened on our 2006 at about 40k miles. Of course there can be other causes, too.

Thanks
Tell your SO to shut up and the light won't come on anymore.
As noted, the most common cause that I have seen is with the connector / wire harness under the seat. The motion of the seat seems to chaff the wire. Worth noting however is that there are a lot of elements to the supplemental restraint system and it could be a number of causes. You might check out the connector under the seat but if you don't see anything real obvious you probably should have it checked by a dealer. If the light is on, your airbag isn't working properly and an accident is really the wrong time to find out it was something more serious. Just my .02. I am not aware of a TSB having been issued on the under seat connector but it would be part of any competent dealers diagnostic procedure.
I had a similar problem with my 05 and found a fix on corvette mechanic forum. Following what I found there I pulled the drivers seat out and found that the wire for my airbag was running under the power seat motor. Moved it to run above the motor and have not had the light problem since. Hope my problem and fix will help lead you to fix yours.

I've experienced exactly the same thing. In my case, the fix was the same as in yours.
