I can get the 36/30 GMPP for my '07 convertible for about $860. My factory warranty expires in 8 months, so there would be some overlap. I understand that the GMPP covers some things the factory warranty doesn't . . . should I wait until the factory warranty is more nearly expired? I will be ready to trade just about the time the GMPP would expire if I get it now (for a C7, I hope?). What do you think? Would I be wasting money to get the GMPP now?
You must not have got the quote from because it is higher than my price. Prices are changing on Tuesday so up to you to decide whether to same the money now or pay more in eight months.

If your buying new at or around the time your present warranty expires, don't buy extended. But, if YOU sell your car privately the extended warranty is a HUGE selling point. It's transferrable. You recover that cost when you sell. If your trading in, save the money. If you are keeping your car wait until 1 month before factory warranty expires and call Dennis Fitchner for gmpp.

If you wait, you will pay a little more, but your coverage will
extend 3 years from the date the policy is activated. Why activate
8 months early when you already have coverage from the factory
warranty?

Exactly the question I asked the dealership. The answer was because it appears that GMPP covers some things that the basic factory warranty doesn't. I realize the drivetrain warranty on my '07 is longer.
As for the "I can get it cheaper for you" responses, thank you, but I prefer to support the dealership where I bought the car and where I always have it serviced. The price is fair ($0 deductible) and a LOT less than many other places quoted.
I will be keeping the car about another 3 years, maybe a little less, so it will be covered right up until I trade it. I only put about 4500 miles per year on the car so mileage isn't an issue.
Yes, I understand that. However, even ONE dealer repair on a C6 can be very expensive, and many if not most of the repairs reported on this forum are outside those extended 100,000 mile-covered items, such as electrical issues. As I said, I intend to keep the car for a little over two years beyond the basic 3/36 factory warranty, and the consensus opinion on this (and other) Corvette forums seems to be that if you qualify for the GMPP, you should get it. The zero-deductible, 36-month / 30K mile option seems to be the best fit. My question was only if would be better to wait until closer to the actual expiration of my original factory warranty, or opt into the GMPP which will take me to slightly beyond where I want to be at the end, time and mileage-wise. If I wait until near the very end of my existing warranty to purchase the GMPP plan, it will (A) cost me a little more, and (B) extend some months beyond the time I intend to trade the car in on a new Corvette. So, if I wait, I won't have overlapping coverage but I will be paying for GMPP protection I won't be using at the other end. Is it worse "wasting" some money by getting the GMPP plan a little earlier than I actually need it, or "wasting" some money by paying for GMPP coverage beyond the time I intend to trade the car?
That's the question. And I know, it's up to me. Just wanted to get your thoughts on it. Also, those of you who have the GMPP, how's it working for you? Good claims experiences? Worth it?
We have had multiple claims under GMPP with our 2001 and 2006
Got good service at two different dealers, seamless- they bill GMPP just as if the car was under the original warranty.
For both cars, we came out ahead financially by getting the extended warranty and "turning in" the unused portion to GMPP when we traded/sold the cars.

GMPP does not cover as much as the factory warranty. It will not cover seat frames, upholstery, glass, weatherstrip, etc. It will cover the electronics, wheel bearings, tie rods, steering components and drive train items(after the GM drive train warranty expires). The dealers seem to like working with GMPP more than they do with the factory warranty. The GMPP on my 03Z covered an ABS failure that cost them $3000 (I saw the bill submitted to the plan). If I had to do that repair myself it would have cost me about $1200 in parts alone.

I bought a GMPP with less than two weeks left on the factory warranty. My car had less than 24,000 miles, and my selling dealer matched the best price I could find online.
Thanks for the input. Now, here's a question I think I may already know the answer to, but I would like a dealer's opinion: If I get the GMPP now, even though I have about 8 months of the factory warranty left, and I need service that the GMPP doesn't cover but the factory warranty does . . . will the repair still be covered under the factory warranty?
I don't see why it wouldn't be, I don't see anywhere where purchase of the GMPP negates any remaining factory warranty coverage. Just askin'.
As it stands right now, it looks like the best and most cost-effective plan is to wait until I have only a week or two left on the factory warranty, then shop for the best price on the GMPP.
