Default Tires

Getting to be tire time for my C6. HAs anybody tried the new Michelin run flats? HAve only 13000 on the original Goodyears and I think we should do better than that especially if there is NO racing involved.

Default Tires...

I am guessing that you have the Z51 suspension and also the softer tires that go with Z51. If so, they are known for a lot less miles than the regular suspension and tires. Tires have been discussed over and over on this Forum. I would suggest you consider replacing with just about anything but what you had and also aligning the 4 wheels. There are at least 2 alignments, the Regular Performance Alignment and the Tire Milage Alignment. Since it appears you dont race or run your vehicle at all hard the Tire Milage Alignment might be in your best interest. I myself am a fan of the Firestones because they are a good tire and they can usually be had at a good price. Just recently one of the locals here got Michelins at a good price after talking to the Tire Rack People. After speaking to the Tire Rack people his local shop negotiated the Michelin Tire Prices. I am not for pitting one Tire Place against another but you need to let them know you want tires and the price is important. Just my 2 cents worth. Good Luck...

I have a F55 optioned suspension. Are their Regular Performance and Tire Milage Alignments Alignments for this suspension, and if so, what are they? Would it pay to have my alignment adjusted differently from the factory settings (assuming they were correctly set) in order to stretch my tire mileage?

I recommend Firestone Wide Oval run flats. At Tire Rack $203 front $289 rear. These are made for the C6 only! This is my third vette and these ,so far, are the best tires that I have used! I'm sure the Michlin's are good too. However, the price on the rears are way too high!!!

Tire Rack is showing Michelin Pilotsport A/S Plus ZP for $291 for the rears. This sounds like a great price. Any comments?

I just checked this out. This seams to be a new tire. However, this is a all season tire with a tread ware rate of 500. Harder rubber. The ride would be harder than a summer time as well. But I am intrested in any reports on this tire from anyone!

A 500 wear rating on those Michelins A/Ss would be a big improvement in lifespan over all other brands available for our car...very interesting for those who are willing to trade a little bit of handling for a lot more tread life!

Also, being an all season tire, they may be usable when outside temperature drops below 50F. OEM tire traction really drops below 50F.

For what it’s worth, I have a 2009 Z51 and at 7500 miles I replaced the OEM tires with Kumho Ecsta SPT’s. I now have over 14000 miles on them and can say, without equivocation, that they are exceptional. I have over 1/2 the tread left, they are quiet, they perform great in wet/dry situations and even when caught in freezing temperature conditions (which is not recommended). In my opinion, I much prefer conventional tires over run-flats for a variety of reasons. I’m sure, over time, run-flats will improve to the point where I find them acceptable. Currently, virtually every tire shop, including Goodyear, will not repair run-flats even though that is part of Goodyear’s warranty. Many tire technicians say that it takes 2-3 times longer to dismount and remount run-flats and quite often wheels are damaged when doing so. Get a nail in a tire while on vacation over a weekend and good luck finding a place which has your run-flat tire in stock or will want to fix it. Conventional tires can be repaired readily and offer a much better ride. Most tire problems involve slow leaks so just keep a can of “Sensor Safe” Fix-a-flat in your compartment along with a mini air compressor and patch kit and you’re able to deal with most of the problems you will encounter on the road. Done that for many, many years. Just a thought. Happy motoring.

Default Tires

Just finished a 4852 mile trip thruN.D.,Mont.Ida.Was,Ore,Utah,Wyo,Colo, N.M. and back to Texas. Having replaced the Goodyear Super Tire(Z51) with Firestone Wide Oval run flat, I was very impressed with the handling, quietness, and ride. Even my wife remarked at how much quieter the new tires were. Temp variance from 95 in texas, and N.M. to 46 in N.D.with a light rain. Cannot recommened the Firestone enough.

For the price, 1347. tax, alignmentfor life, balance, etc. the price is right also. Also got road hazard package. Im,old 72 but young at heart.
