I think it's stupid to do the decals. Especially since most people around here sell their cars to people who don't belong on post, and then they have access. That's why they are cracking down on it. Too many people who don't belong here getting on, with expired tags.

24/7 100% ID check (CAC cards) to get on base where I am. No exceptions.
i thought they got rid of them DoD wide a couple years ago due to 100% Id checks anyway and it was just a waste of money. Make the suggestion to get rid of them and maybe you could make a buck where you are!
if not maybe you could tape on the inside of your vehicle and just remove it when not on base?

That sort of defeats the purpose if you can just remove them and put them on another vehicle. I travel to lots of different installations and they all have their own rules; some look at all ID cards, some only look at the drivers. It's Uncle Sam and the local Commander...just got to follow their rules.
lay the sticker on a piece of thin plastic (liek the thickness of a credit card) and cut it to size and throw it in your window like its a parking pass. Or if you have a magnet you could do the same thing. (seen motorcycle guys do the magnet way)
This is a sore subject for me. McCord and Ft Lewis are side by side, one requires them the other does not. I'm retired AF but make most of my visits to Ft Lewis for medical resons. So I registred my vette on Ft Lewis. I agree this was a DOD program but now has become somewhat of a AF vs Army thing. Both do 100% ID checks so I'd lean away from them and agree with the Opsec issue. Can't wait for the dual base concept to pickup so maybe one CC will make a grand decision either way. Until then I have mine right over the vin.
I think this is why the AF did away with them. They check everyone's ID so no need for decals.
Don't be surprised if they come back for the AF. Hickam AFB in Hawaii is going to start requiring stickers again on Jan 30,2010. I agree it doesn't make much sense as they check everyone's IDs anyway but there you go.
I got out of the military 33 yrs ago, but Texas requires all cars to have these 2 in this exact spot (registration and safety inspection). These aren't as bad as the required front license plate, but that's where I draw the line. I wont put the front plate on.

Uh...you are suppose to scrape the sticker and turn it in when you sell or trade a car. The serial number belongs to the member. Hope the new owner of your car does not rob the base McD's.
