Default Oil usage between changes?

09 Cpe.

I changed the Oil out at 1200 miles.

Right now 4500 miles on the odo.

Checking the stick, I have burned 1/3 of a Quart in 3300 miles.

Did I break her in right or am I driving like a Sally?

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Some motors will go through a little oil especially if you drive in the higher rpm range. As long as it is under 1 quart every 1,000 miles, I wouldn't put too much worry into it.

I would say you are fine and within the normal range of usage.

Your doing great. The harder you drive it the more oil you burn. I drive 2,000 to 3,000 miles a year and use about 1/2 quart. I change it once a year.

I drive mine pretty normal with a little sprited driving mixed in now and then. I don't seem to burn any oil with 6k on the odometer. I did the first change at just under 3k.

1 qrt. every 1500 miles is acceptable, especially if you drive it hard.

Its fine and also remember that when you started on this new oil, the engine still didn't have many miles on it. It will probably use less on the next change.................................. ........Sally (J/K)

I've got 19,000 + on my 08 and no oil usage. Generally change the oil every five months on a contract, that allows five months or 5000 miles between changes.

Our 09 has not used any in the first 15k, maybe because I change it very often, 1k first change and then every 3k

My 05 has 14,000 miles on it now.... & I take it to the drag strip at least 2 times a month.. its 100 mile drive each way (I cruise at app70-80 mph or 1800 rpm..

I usually make app 5-8 1/4 mile runs, and take it to the red line on every run... I now have 2500 miles since my last oil change.. & have not used any !

Also I only use 5 qts not the 5.5 it calls for... After a change it shows about 1/2 qt low or a bit more...The oil is at the lower part of the cross hatch mark on the dip stick right after I change it.. and it has never gone lower...

Mine (now with 32K miles) has had the oil changed each 6K by me since I bought it at 16K (yeah, I know that's more than the required frequency), which is about every 6 months.

Each time it has shown about a 1/4 quart drop in oil level, or equal to 8 oz use in 6K miles.

My LS7 has over 36k miles. It has consistantly used about a quart every 5k miles. Nature of the beast.

Mine used about 1/2 a quart or so for the first 500/1000 miles during break-in. Since then it seems to have tightened up and now uses only a negligible amount (I might add a couple ounces between changes).

You're well within accepted norms for these LSx engines! I'd say it's not typical to use ZERO oil in 3 or 4k miles.... My normal usage is about 1/3 of qt every 4000k of which I'm happy. I drive pretty aggressively and these engines do use more oil the harder you push them.

If you're tracking the car GM recommends a 1/2 qt more to start so they are well aware they use some oil when they are being driven hard....

We left on a long road trip when our 2009 A6 had about 1,500 miles. The trip was 4,400 miles of mixed easy and hard driving, burned about 1/4 - 1/3 quart. That works out to between 13,000-17,000 miles per quart. I'm a happy camper.

Our 2001 had the "improved" rings and drank oil like a fish; best I ever got was 4,000 miles per quart, typical was 3,000 or less.

My 01Z06 LS6 was using about a qt per 1000 miles. It got the ring update at 11k miles and the oil consumption improved to about a qt per 3000-3500 miles. Eventually sold the car at 49k miles.

GM engineers usually know what they are doing, but I tell stories like yours and mine when someone says we should accept as Gospel everything the engineers say.
