Does anyone know where the indexing function resides? In the main computer or the door switches? Would like to add it to another GM car that does not currently have it (2009 Pontiac Solstice).
I would expect that it requires a sensor on the window itself to tell the computer where the window position is. This may be feedback from the motor itself also, but I doubt that it exists on the Solstice, so can't be added to the computer...
Because the coupe is very much like our vettes, a tight fit. When you close the door with the windows up, it does not shut all the way unless you shut it really hard. I have walked into the garage several times to find the light on in my wife's car because the door was not shut all the way. She has never had that problem on any other car in the past 35 years of driving. So I drove it for a few days and found the same thing happening to me. I cracked the windows and the problem went away. Obviously it is so well sealed that pressure is created. One obvious answer is to work on shutting the door HARD, but I prefer to solve the problem the way it should have been done to start with.......
This is not likely going to be a feature that will be very easy to add. It isn't a module that can be transferred or added to a car. The operation of the window index uses the BCM, the driver's and passenger's door module and input from the door switches. The car is programmed to calibrate a min and max position at the top and bottom of the window travel. It is then programmed, upon operation of the door switch to calculate travel of the window and its relation to those top and bottom positions. It is programmed to lower the window upon opening and close the window upon closing of the door.
Not a bad idea however, especially if you have a car that is sealed up good and makes the doors difficult to close.
I am just amazed that they did not include it on the Solstice. Is is on my son's 2010 Camaro that actually is less expensive than the Solstice coupe and I can't imagine that they would not realize the tight fit (like the vette coupe yet quite a bit smaller) would create the door closing issue. Oh well......another reason I really like my Vette.
