New tires installed, and few new....
scratches on my rim
I was just wondering if this is a common thing with competition gray rims? I wasn't going to make a big deal out of it, but 3 out of the 4 rims have scratches in it.
Should i persue this, or should I just chalk it up to normal tire instal?

If they can not do the job correctly, then they should not do it at all.
When I replaced the wheels on the front of my Z, I went to a known Goodyear, where I know the installer.
After he was done, I point blank asked him. Did you scratch them. He replied with no. I asked if he was sure. Again, he responded with no.
As he said, they were fine.
I tipped him 50 for his time.

I had tires mounted last month on polished aluminum wheels and they had NO new scratches.. I had one that Firestone pointed out to me before they did the work. Yes!! I would have made a issue of it with the installers.. Just my two cents

i specifically asked the manager if he will do it with out scratches, and he said yes.
Unfortunatley I didn't see it until I got home because of the rain (having my gargare and siding re-done on my house, and didn't trust the contractors not to hit it) and a quick wipe down.....
I guess I will call them now

Sadly, they all promise not to scratch them - after that it's a crap shoot. Much of it has to do with the equipment they have available to them but the MAJORITY of the outcome is dependent on the skill of the machine operator and their overall "mentality" on how careful they should be. Find a good guy and I'd remember them (and tip them well for good service).

I had one rear tire replaced because of a nail, went to goodyear made the mistake of not checking rims after change.Found two, large gouges on flat part of rim, took it back, no one knew what happen or would take responsiablity.Make sure you have manger inspect before or after service.

it all depends on the installer, and thier knowledge, low pros are no fun to mount LMAO! I scratched my wifes rim when putting a tire on, no big deal cuz they are stock and probaly getting them powder coated, but i was pissed at myself. I know exactly what I did wrong and know how to fix the issue for next time. no biggie.

But realistically, the most difficult part I've been told is taking off an old, worn, hardened, difficult, runflat tire. It is double as hard to take it off as it is to put on a new runflat of the same make. I watched, and that's no lie.
Depending on how little or big the scratches are, you can make a fuss over it, but anyone who says they can demount and mount with absolutely no worries of scratching wheels is probably stretching the truth. imo. others may disagree, as they seem to in the above posts.

Expert installers should be able to tell you right up front if they have the equipment to do the job correctly without damaging the wheels or the paint. That being said, you can't expect Bubba's Tire Shop to take the time and effort to to mount your tires to perfection. I now only trust highly recommended custom tire shops to do the job. It will cost more but in the long run it is worth it. I had a shop almost ruin a set of chrome Z-06 wheels before I figured it out.

Remember you can use Tireracks website to see what equipment their local recommended installers have. It will list their tire changing equipment, to verify if it is touchless etc. Just another source to look.
