Default A tire story.

Yesterday my wife and I were going from our house in The Villages, FL to Deland to take my daughter out to dinner for her 33rd birthday.

On the way over I got the low tire warning light and beeps. So I pulled over and looked at the left rear and found a 2 1/2 inch dry wall screw in the middle of the tire. I called several tire stores (the ones open at 4 p.m. on a Saturday) and found a Goodyear store who had a tire.

When I got to the store they weren't busy so I went right in. I ask if they had jacking pucks and the look I got was unforgetable. WHAT? I pulled out mine and showed then how to use them. They lifted the car and removed the wheel. Since the hole was in the middle of the tire I ask about patching it. The tires have 25,000 on them and I would like to replace them all at the same time. A patch was out of the question. No Way!!

After getting the tire off, they went to the back room to hunt the new tire. After 15 minutes they returned with a $450.00 dollar tire that in no way matched the other rear tire. The tread pattern was much different and they didn't have a second tire. They did look at the other stores in the area and could go and get one in less then 2 hours. Since it was now almost 5 p.m. (closing time) the idea of the patch went from NO WAY, to a great idea.

So they patched the tire and it's holding. I checked The Tire Rack last night when I got back to Georgia and a new set of Michelins Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZP are on the order list.

It was a long day!

P.S. We enjoyed dinner.

The patch will hold fine. You'll like the Mich's.

which is like your EPA fuel mileage estimates on the window sticker of the new vehicle you just bought... only even less reliable. I know. No offence.

The patch was placed through the hole from the inside out. Then glued or sealed or what ever they do. It won't be there long, I'll get the new tires in a couple days and besides, the Vette is not my daily driver. I have an 04 Jeep, Wrangler I use for work because of the un-paved road around the fireing ranges. So all it has to do is sit in the garage for now.

Your reluctance to use the patch until it was the last resort reminds me of the Mickey Gilley song, "The girls look prettier at closing time" and I'm glad it worked out.

Yes, Wolf, but I meant in comparison to the 220 rating on the Michelin PS2 RF. It may or may not be 2.5 times longer but it must be somewhat longer. The A/S Michelin comes with a 45,000 mile warranty from Michelin also....that's probably a first on a Corvette tire!

I happened to be in a Goodyear store the other day and saw some Goodyear tires with a 700 rating!
Doesn't mean much anymore, if it ever did.

I have a plug patch installed in the middle of my rear tire and its holding up. They pulled the plug from the inside to the outside and put a patch over the plug, looked like a great job.

There's lots of 700 tires out there, but not in C6 sizes...that was my point. A first for C6s and there has never been a tire in C6 size that carried a 45,000 mile treadwear warranty...
