whats you opinion on a C6 thats been fixed after a right rear collision where they say the frame had to be pulled back into position. Can this be done properly, or even at all?

I'd walk away. Frame damage is never good.

I think it all depends on price and other factors.

If it is low miles, loaded, and the right color I might be willing to get on for 18k or less.

Yeah, that's what I thought the experts would say. Bums me out though because it's a nice car priced good, but not good enough for being salvaged....22K......Thank's for all the advice!

A good price if you plan on owning the car for the rest of your life, but if you want to move it next year or in 5 years the car will not be worth anything (if )you can find a buyer.

Thanks Bob, but I'll probably only keep any car I buy for 2 years or so. I think you're right about not being able to sell it in the near future. If they offered it for 15 or 16K I might think about it, but not 22K.

Its all in the quality of the repair. ANY steel frame CAN be repaired back to spec if the damage isnt too extreme, we do it all day. Does the car look repaired ? does it drive straight? do the body lines line up perfect? Would you be able to tell that the car was wrecked and repaired if you hadnt been told ? I recommend you have it inspected by a collision shop. Ive repaired several C6's at my collision shop and when the job is done right nobody can tell any difference. The value of the car is still diminished due to a salvage /rebuilt title or an insurance claim on the cars history report, but considering the repair is good, the value only drops by about 25% off the regular market price of a comparable C6.

Good answer spin-doktor!! Too many people are afraid of a salvage car. You just have to be conscious that reselling a salvage/rebuilt car is a nightmare. If are going to buy it for less than wholesale and drive it for years to come? Then it could be worthwhile. A salvage title could also raise questions about the validity of the warranty??? The value of the car in reality is probably lowered to more like 33% off the regular market price .

A friend of mine had a repair/paint shop. He used to look for wrecked Vettes. He said if you took the time to do the frame correctly, the rest was a piece of cake. Just order the fiberglass replacement parts and stick em' on. As said above, don't think you'll ever be able to re-sell the car (easily).

Be forewarned that some insurance companies will not insure savage vehicles for good reasons. Why buy someone’s problems?

All good points and helpful....but I think because I don't plan on keeping the car forever I need to move on to something that I'll be able to sell in 2 or 3 years if I want to upgrade or move into another car. Thanks again for all your opinions on this situation. If any of you want to see it, it's on cars.com listed at 21,900.

For the right price...anything is worth buying! I would never buy a salvage vehicle period, unless the price was to good to walk away! Remember, if you buy it dirt cheap, you will probably have to sell it that way! But to own a low mileage, C6 vette that looks a drives fine for cheap, could be a hell of a deal!

Usually in a wrecked vehicle, there are problems that will rear their ugly head later. Like in a year or so, that you can't see at the present. Turn around and run away as fast as you can. You are asking for trouble.

If the price is right this is the perfect car. . . to be used as a donor! Depending on the rest of the car, engine in particular, she would be a perfect donor on a FFR GTM project car. Clearly, buyers beware, but I’ve been shopping for LS7 crates and wouldn’t hesitate on a wrecked C6Z that’s been kissed in the right rear. As the GTM doesn’t use the C6Z Transaxle only the rear suspension parts would need to be located to complete the donor. Part the rest out to plus-up your pot.

I know its not a Vette, but my wife bought a Brand New Lexus GS400 in 2000 she had it for 2 weeks, and some old lady hit her head on....

My wife suffered a broken hand and other injuries... but the estimate to fix the car was $13,700 & the ins Co Would NOT Total it..

I was told by a friend of an excellent body shop in the next town... They (the body shop) had the car for over 2 months.. I would go there about once a week to see how they were doing.

I couldn't believe the car would ever run again.. there was nothing left from the fire wall forward!
The seats, Dash, steering wheel, and steering column were out of the car..

They used a Lazar to get the frame straight, replace all parts with OEM Lexus parts...

This we early in 2000 and the car only had 2300 miles on it! When we got it back, my wife & I drove it until 2008 and put app 70,000 miles on it With NO problems EVER no squeaks, rattles etc.. All the electronics worked perfect (& trust me it had a lot of bells & whistles) but never ANY problem related to the accident..

That was the Good news... now for the BAD... although it was running good, the wife wanted a new car, and loved the Audi Cabriolet Quatro... so we went to trade the Lexus in on the new Audi... the deal was made, she got her convertible, but bottom line the salesman was "Honest" and told us even though the car looked and drove like new it had note on the car fax that it was involved in an accident where air bags went off, and there was over $5000 damage done to it...We got $4000 Less than Blue Book on The Trade

I had no choice as my wife wanted the new Audi, and I was in NO mood to try to sell it privately!

So bottom line if its fixed "RIGHT" you might have a good car, but most likely will get hurt when its time to sell it!
