Default 20O7-2008 Engine Question

Maybe a dumb question, but....I believe there is a 30 horsepower difference between the '07 & '08 engines. Is the difference noticable in performance and/or gas mileage?

Thanks

I believe the accepted numbers are a .1 increase in performance and about a 1 MPG decrease in fuel mileage.

But these numbers are so close they could be lost in the noise of real world driving.

Thank you for your reply. I'm trying to decide between an 07 and 08. I'm leaning to an 07 Pace car, but might go with the 08 if I can find a CRM color with tan top & interior that is close enough to me.

Just wanted to check to see if horsepower might come into play.

Don't mis-understand the importance of more HP and TQ. But the average driver will never get the LS2 Corvette to hook up and extract all of its performance abilities let alone even more HP/TQ.

The bottom line is a really good driver will always be faster in an LS3 car (all things being equal). But all bets are off if the driver can't drive.

Both cars are highly capable worthy. Good luck and good hunting.

It is 36 HP with dual mode NPP exhaust. The '08 also has an improved shifting manual transmission, steering gear and interior details.

The LS3 replaced the LS2 in 2008 and actually does have thirty more horse unless you have NPP and then it 436HP.

They say the LS3 is the latest version and the LS9 in the ZR1 is derivewd from it. Has thicker cylinder walls so it holds up to SC.

We traded a 2006 A6 coupe for a 2009 A6 coupe and I was amazed at how much nicer the steering is, lighter and more precise.

The extra 36 hp plus the performance axle (automatic trans) make a noticable difference, too.

And the A6 now automatically blips the throttle when you paddle a downshift, very nice.

The 2009 is a MUCH nicer car than the 2006. A 2008 will be identical to a 2009 except for variable ratio steering, mostly used when parking or driving tight corners around town.

The 2008 has the better LS3 engine and some very nice interior and exterior upgrades. Get the 2008 if you can swing it.

I would recommend trying to get into an '08 or '09 primarily for all the other improvements......the engine is just frosting on the cake. JMO.

As a FEB 07 buyer with an LS2, I would get the 08 if I were in your shoes.

Both of your potential choices are very nice cars, with the 07 Pace car being a little more unique of the two. If you find a quality car of either of your choices, I think that the specific car would dictate the choice more so than the model year differences between 07 and 08.

BTW it is not often that I see Wichita Falls locations, I spent 3 years there at Sheppard AFB; enjoying life in my younger days.

I test drove an 07 before I bought my 08. It felt damn good! plenty of power. But when I went looking, I decided I wanted the 08. Honestly i probably would have regretted getting a lower powered ls2. but thats just me.
