2009 Z51, A6, no oil cooler.
I've seen 245 while climbing a twisty road in NC on a cool day, lots of power and lots of high rpm time. I'm sure it would have gone higher if the road had continued.
I've heard of over 300' from people on a road course for 20+ minutes even with the Z51 oil cooler.
A retired oil engineer says the desired range for full throttle is 190'-250'. The cars seem to survive going outside of that, but ...
'08 without oil cooler. In heavy rush hour stop 'n go traffic today with 116 degrees outside temp in downtown Phoenix, my oil hit 248, coolant 232, and A6 trans at 189. The A6 has an independent cooler.
Once I got on the freeway and speeds in the 55-75 range, the coolant dropped to 205, the oil to 239, and the trans to 170 after 20 miles.
It's not normally that hot in Phoenix and I don't get in that much traffic often either, so those temps are pretty much the extremes for me. Normal is oil 210, coolant 190, trans 170 in the summer and a lot less in winter.
08 Z51 auto hit 300 oil temp on road course about 230 coolant temp around 230 trans temp 214.
2013 ZR1 hit 270 oil temp on road course last Saturday. My buddy's car 2013 Z06 hit 284 oil temp same day.
Changed oil after event both car run great.

I get confused easily.
Three fluids (oil, coolant, trans) but four numbers.
Can you rephrase that?
Thanks.
Just saw oil temp of 257 after 15 miles of stop and go traffic today. It was over 100 degrees outside. Turned off the AC for a moment and it dropped to 255. My independent mechanic says that there is nothing to worry about as the engine is still getting broken in (3,000 miles). 2013 GS Vert.

What is the operating oil temp on a LS3 motor, When I bought my car new from the dealer, my first long distance run was to Carlisle last year, while I was on my way to Carlisle I noticed my oil temp. at around 248degs. My car was stock as it can be from the dealer, I was a bit worried because I also has a C5 and never noticed that high oil temp. . Now being curious I inquired and was told it was too high although I have heard of other LS3 running higher temp.than 248deg.
Am I supposed to be worried about that temp. or is it normal? I did installed a Dewitt radiator with an oil cooler and an additional oil cooler with a termostat switch and an independent fan onto it.
Could you LS3 guys give some temp. normally seen and some while on hard driving. Your responce will be appreciated to me and I am sure there are others who will use this imformation for theirself.
My 08 c6 a6 on highway stays at the normal operating temp of 210 Now if its hold or cold wheather stopped or in bumper or bumper it wll quickly go up to 220. Not even sure itf its normal to go up to 220 when its cool outside but it does,.
My dry sump GS runs on the cool side averaging around 170-185 on the street. In cooler weather can only hit 165 or so. I did buy an oil cooler cover for the cooler season but have yet to use it.
On the track I've hit 270 when its 95+ degrees out. This year haven't hit much over 250 on the track.
I thought I read somewhere once you hit 250 on the track it's time to change the oil? Hit 248 last track day and was going to drop it before the next. Use Mobil 1.
