I use the 56" two piece race ramps. They are so light and easy to use. I use them to change the oil on all my cars including the 1500 Silverado. My only regret is I didn't buy them earlier.
I have the 67" 2 piece race ramps, Love them, changed my oil, exhaust, x pipe, tunnel plate..... probably paid for themselves by now. David
Same here. They are a little pricey, but for the convenience of removing the rear section of the ramp once you have the car up for better access under the car and the strength of the ramps, it is worth the price...IMHO
Go to a local lumber yard and get 2x12s. Then you can make the ramp as long or high as you like,
I fastened a piece of plywood to the bottom for the wheels to roll up onto first so the 2x12s can't kick out. Then I just stacked the boards on top of each other to get the height I needed.

Hi,
Thank you for the response. I really like the plywood idea.

Are we talking $50-75 worth of lumber?
Best regards,
Jeffrey
The cost should be around $50.
When I built mine the bottom 2x12s were about 6' long. The middle 2x12s were 4' and the top 2'. Then I put a 2" strip on top as a stop. The plywood was about 7'.
Understand that you can build a set out of plywood for much less than the cost of the Race Ramps; however, the Race Ramps will not slide and are light enough to throw in the back of your or a buddies car and take to the track.
How much is your noggin worth. Race Ramps have been tested...plywood ramps are tested the first time you drive your $50K car up them.

2x12s stacked on top of each other will hold far more then race ramps ever could.
The plywood is only fastened to the bottom because it is thin enough to easily drive up on and prevent the the 2x12 from kicking out.
I kinda did somewhat what MARSC6 did. I went to home depot and bought about a 6 FT 2X12 and had them cut in equal 1/5 ft sections. Then, I had the guy angle the saw and cut a nice sloped angle in each board. When I have to raise the car, I just pull it up on the 4 boards. Then, I jack the car up and put 4 jackstands under it. I like having the piece of mind of the jackstands over any ramp. I have a 99 GTS that is lowered on adjustable suspension and it works out great for me! That and if you have to put the car way up, you have that option. The ramp only goes up to 10 inches...I can raise my car up almost 18 if I have to!
EDIT: One more thing that you don't have to worry about with the 2x12's is...if you over shoot them, nothing bad will happen to your car! Just back up and try again. I have heard of people over shooting ramps when they pull on to them!
