Curious about a couple issues
I bought a new gas cap from the Chevrolet dealer and the parts guy told me this is fairly common on Chevrolet (and, I suppose, all GM cars and trucks that use this particular type gas cap). he has gone through a couple of them himself.
Not a big deal, but if this is a chronic problem why doesn't GM issue a recall? Seems to me this would be an emissions matter.
Anyone else have this happen?
Secondly, a few times lately I have sat down in the car, ready to start it and the DIC gives me a message "No Fob Detected" when I press the starter switch. If I dig around in my pocket and take out the fob, everything is fine. Today it happened when I tried to turn the engine off. I'm too lazy to go check the owner's manual, but I suspect one of two things;
The battery in the key fob needs to be replaced (3 years old) or,
If the fob is in the same pocket as the keys and fob to my other car (Mazda 3 with keyless entry) they are somehow interfering with one another. The problem has only recently surfaced and I'm sure I've had both fobs in my pocket many times before.
What do you think?

I have not heard of the gas cap thing from anyone..not even with my 05 gto or 08 solstice gxp, our envoys or current Yukon... i think the "pretty common" thing was a bs from the dealer....... there would be a tsb on it before a recall. Recalls cost buuuukkko bucks..

The design of the vette gas cap (mechanics) is no different that any other gm gas cap used on models incorporating this type of gas tank seal. Some wear out much quicker depending on the owners habits.

and as to the clicks, years ago I heard you're only supposed to go one past the initial. don't know if that's true, but that's what I've been doing. kinda like the torque wrench thing, I think.....
fob, can't say if it's years on batt. or what. mine does, or did that occasionally; used to do it more frequently when I carried other keys (non-self opening kind). I don't do that any more. fob on nylon strap which is attached to carabiner-style clip and house key on it, too. no other car keys. attach to belt loop and into pocket. so far, so good.
I guess try the batt. change thing and see if that helps. if not , experiment with less keys/fobs in the pockets maybe. oh, and make sure it's fob 1; I had difficulties using fob 2.

All kidding aside, we all know you here on the forum as a respected, handsome, Zaino expert (there, did I get off the hook?)

As for the gas cap, I like the notion that the more clicks the faster it wears out. I'm a serial clicker.
One reason the oem breaks is people push down on it while letting it click a hundred times while they turn it to the right....two clicks and you are good to go.
it can only get so tight.
