I know a lot of you have been wondering what's the deal with GM's new 60 day test drive/guaranty, so I did a little research. The whole program is explained here.
It seems to me like a great time to consider getting a new Vette. I wouldn't mind trading in my 240 hp Accord for a nice LS3
I read the article. The writer seems concerned about the trade in vs what he paid. In reality you are reimbursed what you paid for the vehicle not the net amount after trade.
for instance: you buy a 30k car and have a 10k trade you pay the dealer the difference of 20k plus tag and tilte fees and maybe a dealer doc fee and possibly sales tax depending on your state.
If you bring the car back you will be paid back the selling price of the car the entire 30k plus any applicable sales tax. You will not get your Tag and title fee back and you probably won't get any dealer doc fees they may have charged but you will get your 30k back plus taxes you paid. The car can then be resold as used since that's exactly what it is and will sell for a much reduced price.
Start looking for some great deals on either 09's or '10's when they come back to the lot. They will all be not more than 2 months old and less than 4,000 miles on them. It should make for some great buys out there.
Wouldn't surprise me. There has to be some type of discount back to the dealers for the cars that come back since they are used. The money the dealer gives back to the first buyer is from GM not their own money. You or I would not pay new price for a used vehicle would we?

Good point. I might be able to get into a Vette way before I thought I could.
Do you think it would be possible to get an LT1 for around 40 even?
yes, thats what i paid for my new 09 with 5 miles on it new...there are deals out there right now for new...many dealers post in here..i know there is one out there right now for 39500.

Wow...great deal.... I'm worried about getting financing though because I've already got a decent amount of outstanding loans due to grad school.
What I'm not seeing in any of these promotional announcements is any mention that if you choose to KEEP the car, you get an additional $500 back on the purchase.
I picked my 2010 Vert up about 3 weeks ago at the NCM, and I just received my $500 check from Ken Fitchner . . . I told him they'd have to take this away from me; I ain't given it up.
does anybody know the exact start date of the program.....i started seeing ads about it the night i purchased my vehicle, so i dont know if it started the day i bought it or the commercials were put on late for business the following day...my dealer mentioned nothing to me about it, i wonder if i can go back and demand $500

Have any of you guys made the plunge recently?
I did it and never looked back!!

Here is a non-Vette issue but it goes with the topic. Wife wanted a 7 seater so we looked at the Acadia and bought a loaded one for $50k. The next day we were just cruising down the interestate and the tranny kept shifting down to get up minor hills or overpasses. It only averaged 18 mpg on a trip that we make into the mountains frequently when our Envoy Denali usually averaged above 19mpg.
I talked to GMC and my dealer (who I also bought the Envoy from) and decided that the Yukon XL Denali was the way to go for around $55k. We took it to LA from Salt Lake City and it would only shift down going up the steepest hills. It averaged about 18mpg on a new motor cruing between 65-80mph. Comfortable as an older Cadillac also.
Dealer generally wiped out the first deal since I didn't drive it much and gave me $500 extra off on the Denali.
Can the program be abused? Yes, someone can go in and buy a 2010 Vette, drive it for up to 4000 miles and turn it in within 2 months. Of course they'll lose their DMV fees and probably wouldn't be able to get another Vette as their name would probably be in the system.
People are probably asking why I went with the Acadia in the first place and if I actually test drove it. We did, but that part of the interstate was flat.
Start date for the program was 14 Sept, I bought the Acadia on 12 Sept, Denali on 16 Sept.
I'm sure there are people who are going to try to abuse the hell out of this program. Some kid will probably want to impress his prom date, so he'll pick up a 2010 Z06, run the hell out of it for a few weeks, then return it hahaha.
