Default Automatic seat return not returning

The function where when car is shut off, seat moves backward to make it easier to get out. Suoopsed to return to preset driving position when car is started. Mine moves back, but suddenly seat back and height readjusts but seat doesn't move forward. Anyone come across this before?

Does the motor still work to move the seat manually? Have you tried resetting the presets 1 or 2 on the door (holding one or the other until they beep)? If everything else is setting, I have not heard of just one of the presets going haywire........

It doesn't move forward automatically, you have to push 1 or 2 preset. If not the car doesn't know which driver is in the seat.

The number 1 or number 2 fob tells it which preset to use.

If the car is an auto transmission, the seat will move to the preset position upon start up automatically. If the car has a manual transmission, you will have to push the door preset button.

No, No, No, verts are not different. Manual trannies & automatic trannies are different when it comes to automatic seat movement. Is your car a manual or an automatic?

Have you reset the positions like the others have asked? If not, do so.

Are you using the same fob as before? If you are the only driver, setup presets with both fobs the same.

Are the batteries in you fob's good? Maybe time to change them. Have you tried putting the fob you always use into the slot in the glovebox and then see if the presets still work like you are use to?

Try disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes, reconnect and reset your presets. Try that?

My 08 coupe has the same issue about 20% of the time. I press #1 and the seat moves to the correct height but does not move forward. I move it forward with the switch on the side of the seat. It will work fine the next 10 times then one day screw up again.

I know how to operate the MN6, but I had no idea the auto moves without touching a memory button. Why is the auto different?

If you're driving an auto, you don't have to worry about using a clutch while the seat is moving.

Correct. It is because of liability issues.

Manual trans......starting the car in gear with the seat and telescoping steering wheel automatically adjusting can cause a person to unintentionally engage the clutch and therefore cause an accident.

Sometimes it all works, sometimes nothing works and other times the seat moves and not the steering wheel or vise versa. Gremlins.

Good luck with that. I have taken mine into the dealer several times. Always the same "no problem". But it is still intermittent. This is a GM problem that they refuse to acknowledge. No matter what "tricks" are done, setting it right, pulling the handbrake, nothing really matters. The memory module is flaky, pure and simple. Those of you on this forum that are having the same problems, have tried all the fixes, and still have the problems know what I am talking about. You have just given up and are living with it, like I am.

Go figure, you want yours to move on its own and I just wish it would stop going back on its own, lol.

My 06 does exactly the same thing. Gets a little frustrating sometimes

Yes, this is a common problem. It even happens on MN6 cars where you push the button and the seat does not move into the proper position. It has nothing to do with fobs, seat control modules, or any of the myriad other things. It will work for a while when the seat is reset by either unplugging the seat module or disconnecting battery power (I don't suggest the latter, becuase of all the other items reset). That is why replacing the seat module seems to fix it for a while.

It is most likely the position sensor on the seat motor forgetting where the seat is. You can do a simple test: move the seat a fraction of an inch forward before starting the car. If the seat now responds correctly, it is the seat motor.

I had this on my '05 MN6, and that was the final conclusion.

Default My Fix

My memory seat would not always move forward to my position as well. If I moved the seat forward just a little with the seat adjustment, then pressed the memory button (M6) it would move to position.

After reading the owner's manual and realizing that I could program how far back the seat goes with the middle memory button, I programmed it to not go quite all the way back. So far (knock on wood) the seat has now always returned to my driving position after pressing the memory button.

FWIW,
Don
