Default Help With Xenon Bulb Replacement

I bought a pair of D1S 6000K Xenon Bulbs. My 05 Coupe has a low beam Lite out. The old bulb has 2 tabs with screws to remove the bulb. The new bulbs do not have these tabs on the metal square box. The question is how do the new bulbs mount. Thanks in advance dblais

Shouldn't you need HID bulbs or did that not appear on vettes until later?

The D1S's "metal box" is part of the lamp assembly (igniter) and they are replaced as one piece.

At least this is my understanding, but I could be wrong.......

The tabs are the mounting plate. It must be removed from the old bulb and put on the new bulb. I found the job of switching the stock low beam 4300K to 6000K to be a major pain in the ***.

Default HID Bulb Tabs

I believe you are right. I see the back half of the cover for the new bulb can be removed. I will check to see if the cover on the stock HID bulb has the Tabs. Then I will use this on the new bulb. I did some checking on many Sites that check on replacement bulbs, and I see none with the GM mounting Tabs. I will let you Know how I make out. Thanks, dblais

Default Bulbs are in

I installed the replacement bulbs. The Tab I have been referring to is a sheet metal mount that slides behind the bulb mount. You need to take it off the old bulb and install onto the new unit. I bought the bulbs in pairs from C6 Performance online. Total cost $116.00 with shipping. You have no idea the range of prices for these Bulbs. I was quoted $300.00 for one by the Dealer.

Glad you got it. I've heard of them to be a pain.

In case anyone else is interested we have those for $125 shipped/ 1 year warranty. Most temps will have to be ordered since the demand is low on them.

I see that you have a range of temperatures that the bulbs come in. What is the OEM temp?

No kidding on the range of prices. The lowest I had seen til now was $179 a bulb.

Default Bulb Temp

I looked up the OEM Part Number. 66042 Osram. The Kelvin is 4200. The 6000 I replaced has a Blue Look at Night. The Originals seemed to have a White Appearance. I probably will replace the Driving lites with the Xenon Kit.

Correct. 4300k is what most aftermarket kits use and they are very close to the stock color.

That is also the best color temp for seeing. The higher the temp above that the more blue the lights are but the human eye sees less.

They produce no more heat than a halogen bulb they're just brighter. No lenses will crack.
