Default C6 vs C5 Z06

Power and handling comparison- for those have driven or owned both i'd like to hear your comments. I'm debating on buying one or the other- the C6 seems to make more sense as I can pick up an 05-06 coupe w/6 spd (Z51 possible) for high 20s, low 30s- yet clean lower mileage 03-04 C5z are near the same price range.

Power:

C6 manual (non Z06) vs C5 Z06- both at 400hp- which car is quicker off the line-

Does the C6 manual pull hard when punched, push you in your seat fast?

Comfort: plus and minus of each

Handling: I'd have to assume the z06 is tighter- how does it compare to C6 z51?

No intent to be nasty so please don't take it that way but.....this question has been dealt with many times over the years. Here are the results of a quick search that yielded 109 responses. Read through the ones that apply. If you still have questions then come back and ask. Be sure to mention that you searched and read previous discussions.

I have a C6 but have driven the C5 z06 briefly... I thought the Z seemed more violent in terms of throttle response. I thought they were considerable cheaper than C6's, like low 20's...

my buddies 03-z06 drives like a machine that is one with the road, and he only paid like 22k for it with 39k miles last year. my 06 z51 drives like a caddy compared to it. power is close to the same.

Well.....it worked yesterday. I just reran the search and the new link works now. The system must time out on search results or something.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/sear...rchid=12927327

If the link stops working just run an "Advanced Search", "Thread Titles Only" using the parameters ""c5 z06"" (including the double quotes), in "C6 General". Hope that helps.

........................................ ........................................ ...............

Seems to me that it would have been easier to just answer socalman's question.

Don'tcha just hate it when someone tells you to go search for your answer....I'm sure that that are new owners who have newer answers that weren't posted in past timeframes. And besides, if everyone just did a search, there really wouldn't be a forum...there would just something like a Google.

You know, many times people just need a quck answer instead spending hours trying to get a site to work or reading through BS that doesn't apply to their question. There have been many times that the search function just plain doesn't work...like now.

Yes it is terrible informing someone the information they seek is just a search away. And it is unfortunate this site apparently doesn't support links to search results for more than a minute or two.

Since the OP's question does not have a "quick" answer, it involves discussion and various opinions based on experience, if the OP doesn't want to go through the effort of a search then I guess he'll have to wait for all those people who discussed this topic in the past to make their way here to discuss it again.

I will try and help...

My first vette was an 02 Z06 that I bought with 12K miles and was stock.
Car ran great and all but pulled badly on less than perfect roads, interior was comfortable but the stock stereo was the worst of any "better than average" vehicle I had owned to date.
Lowered and aligned the 02 and that made all the difference (realize it was mostly the alignment) did plenty of performance upgrades over a couple years eventually stopping at H/C.
There were a couple fitment issues with interior and exterior that seemed to be corrected on the C6 as well.
All in all car was a blast, wife wanted new house.....sold it!

Fast forward to April 09:
Have been in new house almost 4 years now, wife said I think you need another vette!!

Had been looking a while anyway and finally found what I was looking for.
2006 Silver Z51 6spd (manual) with more options than I wanted but it had the 2 tone interior and the chrome wheels along with the Z51 so the wife and I took a road trip and brought it home.
Many differences...
The C6 drives better is the biggest thing, the stereo is muuuch better and all the features are to my liking (no pop up headlights, interior, exterior fitment & design, push button start & door handel delete).

The C5 Z06 was a little faster stock vs. stock but....
with the couple little mods I have done to this car I can tell the C6 responds with bigger gains compared to doing the same upgrades to the C5.

I almost went with another C5 Z06 to save some $$, I am 100% satisfied I went with a C6 instead.

Understand I am happy to of had both.
Hope this bit of info helps in some way.

I had both and I miss my C5 ZO6. Something about it was more connected and visceral.Performance actually is very close. My C6 is more of a touring car,Still fast and more comfortable.C5 ZO6 Throttle response seemed more immediate with no lag.I love them both. The Z was more brutal. Enough said..So now Google the rest like Mr. rick has instructed.:w illy::toetap ::toetap :

Whether you search or whether you read someone else's pontification, the only way you're going to decide is to put your butt in the seat and drive `em.

Like so many things in this forum the same questions are asked frequently and often without resolve because the answer is in the eye of the beholder. Good questions to be sure.

But what I think or what someone else thinks about whether the car pulls hard, has power and is a good ride is so subjective that other opinion frequently have little relevence.

The best part of the experience is that either way - -you get a great car.

The only 'search' you really need is to find a car you can drive for yourself.

I currently drive an 08' Z and a modified 03'. The 03' has been brought up to Z06 factory specs. It is a C5 Z06 with an automatic trans. The 08' out handles and out runs the C5. That's not to say that the C5 is'nt fun to drive, it's a blast. I've also owned an 05' C6 6 speed manual non Z, it also out handles the C5. I still like the looks of a C5.

Well maybe you can convince the Corvette Forum to change to a Google type or Ask.com format. In the meantime, maybe new owners would like to voice their opinion, as well as other owners you may have changed their minds about their choice...ya think?

I love my C-5Z so much I drive it nearly as much as my 08Z.Hard to describe but it feels like more of a pure sports car with minimal luxuries. And the look is sinister and unique.

Since there were more replies to the "use search" issue- TTT. I appreciate everyone trying to help- even the "search" option.

I have a C4- and I love the it- the "butt dragging on the asphalt" and "feel every bump", tight seats etc. But, the wife, who's had 2 back surgeries, doesn't car for it.

Sounds like the C6 would be the way to go for "cruises".

Just my opinion- Search is a PIA- too many threads come back that do not pertain to the question- especially a subjective question. If I had an issue with my headlights, would be different. I have to agree, every possible question has been asked by now in all the sub catagories- but, I'm new and if I can answer a question, I like to. After all, what's the point of being on a forum if you don't want to chatter.

Plus, I figured people like to talk about their cars and their experiences. The c6 has been out for 5 years now- so there may be some newer owners with different perspectives.

Ok, nuff of that.- I appreciate the couple responses and I'm getting the feeling that the cars are somewhat equivalant in speed (which is for me), and the C6 is more comfortable (for her).

Thanks all- and if anyone wants to add on, I'd love to read what you got to say.......

Just about every possible question has been asked (and answered here). If we were to admonish everyone who asked a question to "do a search", most threads would be 2 posts long. Besides, if it's been a dead topic for 45 days, it needs a new thread anyway. Dems da rulez.

Back to original question...

I had an '02 Z06 and loved it. When the C6 came out, I decided to drive on just to see what it was like. I ended up ordering a Z51, MN6 coupe. There were a few reasons for the switch.

1. It is a LOT quieter. Even with a sound blocker in the back, my Z06 was not a good long distance driver because of noise.

2. There is little, if any, difference in acceleration. If anything, there is more low end torque in the LS2/LS3 than the LS6.

3. With Z51, the handling is on a par with the Z06, and the steering feel is better, at least in '08 and up cars.

4. On the roads around here, the ride in a C6 Z51 is better.

5. The feature set available is superior.
